Anyone else's limbs feel heavy when you drink alcohol?

I googled it but from what I could see, all the results related to alcoholism and binge drinking. I'm not an alcoholic, nor do I binge. But when I have an alcoholic drink, my arms and legs feel all heavy! I've done this since I first started drinking as a teenager so I just assumed it was normal but I mentioned it to DH and he didn't have a clue. I'll have maybe 2-3 drinks most weekends, if that. I'll usually just have one on a Friday and Saturday and nothing else all week.

What is it?

Totally normal!

ArseMenagerie · 14/07/2023 20:15

Might be that you are intolerant to alcohol. I’ll have yours.

I get a very heavy/tingly feeling in my thighs when I drink, even if it’s just a glass or two.

I don’t drink often! 😆

SausageBurns · 16/07/2023 08:14

Yes! I get this. The worst offender for me is Bailey's. It physically makes me ache. It always has since I was a teen. Still drink it though.

Velvian · 16/07/2023 08:17

Yes, even just 1 glass of wine. I thought that was normal, but I've never asked anyone 😅

BringItOnFuckers · 16/07/2023 08:25

Yes, I feel it in my legs on the first glass of wine. Doesn't get any worse if I have 2 or 3. I don't drink very often either but its been like that all my life. I quite like it 😅

I get really bad restless legs. Especially if it’s a whisky / rum based drink.
Any spirits now give me terrible palpitations during the night too.

My arms ache sometimes when I drink

I probably shouldn't mention this as it's VERY unlikely, but I've just been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and one symptom is pain in lymph nodes after drinking alcohol. I've never had it myself but keep seeing it mentioned, apparently it's rare but a strong sign of lymphoma. Of course very unlikely if it's something any of you have had for many years, but I mention because my cancer's been missed for a while and I wish I'd investigated my symptoms earlier. But like I said, very unlikely, and I'm sorry if I've triggered anyone's health anxiety!

Oh damn that's shit for you, I'm so sorry 😔

In my case I do think that's very unlikely, this has happened since I started drinking at around 17 and I'm 32 now, I've had many blood tests over the years for various things so I figure anything serious like cancer would have been picked up a long time ago!

Yes, it happens to me. That's because alcohol affects the brain, which in turn, affects everything else

Yes it's only on the first drink and then it disappears by the time I finish it and/or have another. So weird! But I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Yes me too...I'm actually tee total now apart from the odd glass of fizz on a special occasion. However, my limbs sort of ache and have a weird heavy, feeling...I can get it after just one drink. Never had a problem with alcohol or binge drinking by the way. I thought I was the only one.

Quisisana · 16/07/2023 21:52

Yes! I have bad circulation anyway and I always thought it was related.

ThreadExterminator · 16/07/2023 22:00

I definitely get this but don't notice it much unless I'm on my bike. I don't do this anymore but I used to cycle home from the pub and it would feel like cycling through treacle after alcohol.
