ELCS & Contraception

I'm having an ELCS next week at 38 weeks for a variety of reasons. A coil has been suggested, but nothing has been mentioned since. Had my pre op call yesterday and nurse said just talk to team on the day about it - is that right? Do I just talk to them? I've not taken any form of contraception for years, my preference would be for non hormonal (copper coil)??

Any advice here? Thanks!

I doubt they have them just sitting around in theatre.

Coil can't be fitted straight after birth as your uterus is still stretched. You could ask them to give you the depo injection

My Consultant said coils can be fitted before you're stitched up? I also doubt they're just laying about but who knows?! Grin

I had a planned c section a few weeks ago and asked my consultant for the coil to be fitted during the procedure and she agreed. Then asked if I wanted to make it a more permanent fix and offered to tie my tubes instead. This was only discussed a week before the procedure. She even said to mention to the surgeon on the day to use the clip method. It all seemed very casual "oh just ask the surgeon for XYZ on the day." I have no complaints though. Obviously a massive decision for us but they do this every day.

Tube tying would be my most preferred option, I guess it's the whole "on the day" thing that throws me - I'll ask though!!
