Does anyone ever use the WhatsApp status but??

Accurate scientific polling here. Do you or your contacts use it, and regularly?

None of my contacts have ever used it, I get little alert icons, but it always WhatsApp itself (presumably trying to promote the function?)

Majority of my contacts use it, I barely ever check 😂 just check messages.

Miekle · 14/07/2023 09:12

OP could be from a particular area of Scotland where they use 'but' like that.

usernother · 14/07/2023 09:22

Just looked. I didn't even know it was there.

TammyJones · 14/07/2023 09:44

I have one contact who does
Random stuff
And one who accidentally did once without realising

CheersToMe · 14/07/2023 10:21

Just looked. Didn't know it was there and wouldn't use it. Nothing from any of my contacts either. So a resounding no!

Eloweeese · 14/07/2023 10:29

My friend uses it for religious messages

Star0Fire · 14/07/2023 10:34

No never. What is the community thing about? Seen that at the bottom but also never used

Notthecarwashagain · 14/07/2023 10:37

I assumed ‘bit’ not but.
I don’t use it btw!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 14/07/2023 10:39

I know a couple of people who use it regularly. I've used it once or twice but not for ages

TallulahBetty · 14/07/2023 10:39

OP do you mean status or story??

rooinspace · 14/07/2023 10:41

I have some friends/family in India that use it, but I’ve never seen any of my UK/US friends use it

Status

At the top you have 'chats', 'status' and 'calls'.

Is the status thing the same as the 'hey! I'm using WA' or whatever that default message is? I don't really understand.

The 'hey I'm using WhatsApp ' is the about information.

This is the whole section on the main page called Status.

This bit here.

Definitely called status.

Don't use the status thing.

Are you Australian? They are the only folks I know to us 'but' at the end of a sentence to sort of mean 'though' e.g. does anyone actually use this, though??

I think the Irish also use ‘but’ in exactly this way. (I’ve certainly seen it used by Irish characters in novels written by Irish writers).

PinedApple · 14/07/2023 12:02

@waterlego interesting! Makes sense as a lot of Aussies have Irish heritage.

Definitely a Glaswegian thing too - hear this all the time from my family.

it's possible that they are related to WhatsApp's built-in polling feature, which allows users to create and share simple polls within their conversations. These polls are not scientific in nature and are primarily intended for casual or informal purposes.

RampantIvy · 27/11/2023 08:30

@00100001 can you explain what "but" is. Is this a typo? I haven't a clue what you are talking about.

EBearhug · 27/11/2023 08:37

I have one contact who updates his status daily, usually with inspirational quotes. A couple of others have updated it once or twice, possibly by accident. Most people use WhatsApp to message people and if they're going to make a general comment, they'll use a different platform like Facebook or Instagram.

DoktorPeppa · 27/11/2023 08:40

DD12 and her friends use it regularly, a lot of chain type stuff or wishing happy birthdays. Don't know any adults who do.

Mumsntfan1 · 27/11/2023 08:47

I live in Germany and often use the status as do friends in Germany. Oddly none of my friends/family in the UK ever posts or looks at mine

ChainBastard · 27/11/2023 08:58

12 y/o DS uses it for those chain things that kids do : "repost if you love Christmas" etc. My ex and one friend use it like a Facebook status : "Happy birthday to my nephew" or sharing a pic.
I've never used it!

evtheria · 27/11/2023 09:02

No, think I used up all my 'status updates' rights back in my MSN chat days 🤣
