Royal mail says parcel delivered but the photo is not my house!

Just that really. I was expecting a parcel. Worth around £320 and it was meant to be delivered today. It wasn't. So I checked the tracking link and it shows "delivered. Parcel handed to resident" and there's a photo of a parcel being handed through an open front door that isn't mine! I click on the map and it does seem nearby but the 2 houses that are closest the location shown haven't got it either. And I know they dont. Their front doors are the wrong colour. What do I do? As far as RM are concerned it's delivered. I've stuck a message on our street WhatsApp group but heard nothing.
No card put through the door either.
Will the company have to send another package? Or will they say they're fulfilled their duty bc RM show it delivered? Agh!!

Are you saying it's definitely not been delivered locally or you can't pin down the house for sure? I had this happen to me and asked at a local estate agents. I'd raise with RM and cc the supplier.

Clevs · 13/07/2023 21:48

I had a package delivered to the wrong house just before Christmas. The photo wasn't my house or any of my neighbours. I informed the people I bought the item from and they sent another one and they claimed off Royal Mail for the lost one.

Wahwahwahwahwah · 13/07/2023 22:04

Do the map shows a few doors down, but the photo doesn't look like any of the houses. Also the neighbour whose house is closest to the location is away so there is nobody there anyway.
I'll contact the company tomorrow. I was worried they'd say that it's not their problem if RM show delivered.

so if the people in the house closest to the spot on the map are away, they probably weren’t the ones who accepted the parcel through the front door.

Do any of the nearby houses have front doors the same colour as in the photo?

Wahwahwahwahwah · 13/07/2023 22:38

Nope. Not near the map coordinates. Its stressing me out a bit tbh. It was worth a lot of money :(

Have you got a Facebook group for your area? Someone might recognise the door.

Wahwahwahwahwah · 13/07/2023 22:42

No. We have a WhatsApp group and I've stuck it on there. I mean it's got the correct address written on it so hopefully whoever has it will bring it over tomorrow? What if they don't though? Does anyone know what the law is? Do they have to send another even though it says delivered?

Stop worrying. You can prove it's not your door so simply tell the company tomorrow that it's not your door and they will claim off Royal Mail. There may be a short wait whilst they investigate.

If you paid by PayPal you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Jongleterre · 13/07/2023 23:25

If the door is distinctive you can put your address into instant google street view and simulate driving down the road by clicking on the arrows and looking at all the doors in your road.

GoingToBeLessRubbishAtLife · 13/07/2023 23:29

Don’t spend too much time worrying. It is the seller’s problem. You have a contract with the seller, they have a contract with the delivery service. So it’s for the seller to take it up with the delivery service.

NeedToBookAGetaway · 13/07/2023 23:31

I had a parcel delivered. Left on doorstep
It was a different name. Different house number and different street name.
Googled their address and it was 2 miles away. It was large from a sporting company
I drove it to them that evening
Maybe someone will Do that

Although i was a pissed off taking my time out to deliver it and the woman bluntly opened door i said, sorry i had this delivery to mine 2 miles away but its yours. She grabbed it and said ffs and closed door. Not even a thanks!

Precipice · 13/07/2023 23:34

The person it got delivered to might deliver it to you, but I wouldn't count on it happening too quickly. When I've had things misdelivered to me, my first assumption is that it's one of those 'we left it with your neighbour (loosely interpreted)' cases and the person will turn up for it themselves. If they didn't for a long time, I would take it over, but I wouldn't be rushing to it - not my parcel, not my concern.

I agree with PP that you should contact the seller.

tommika · 14/07/2023 12:48

It’s common for items to get tagged as delivered whilst still on the way (perhaps it’s at the end of the couriers shift so they scan a few and then drop off the next day)

Bit in your case it has been delivered, with the photo etc

The recipient may bring it or end up putting it back into the system for another attempt or return to sender - but that’s not your problem

You report back to the seller that the delivery has not come to you, they then deal with Royal Mail

They may send another straight out, or allow some time
You do not need to wait the full time that Royal Mail takes to resolve/compensate the seller

If it turns up then you let the seller know

tommika · 14/07/2023 12:50

PS even if it had been delivered to the right address and had been left with a photo on your doorstep then you would still report and the compensation route with seller and Royal Mail applies - it wouldn’t have been successfully delivered
Your only obligation in such a case would be if your delivery instructions said to leave it on the doorstep

Are the delivery drivers ever penalised when they deliver expensive parcels to the wrong house?

Wahwahwahwahwah · 14/07/2023 13:00

Thanks everyone. In case the same happens to anyone else I just wanted to update.
I've contacted the seller and they've agreed to send a replacement. If the original package does show I'm to call the seller who'll send me a free-post label for me to return it to them.

RM scan items when delivered and GPS shows where it was. According to my postie who went to another road to find something as he knew where it was.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/07/2023 13:15

If you go on the RM app you can leave feedback for a tracked delivery, which includes that you haven't got it. I've done that before and had the parcel arrive shortly afterwards.

ClaraBourne · 15/07/2023 02:05

Something that expensive should have been signed for surely!
