DH and I are involved with a number of businesses. Our own business is a consultancy and whilst it earns well there is little room to build it. We have a comfortable lifestyle
DH has been involved with another start up for 7 years and has a 20% stake. The business is doing well and has grown enough to employ 20 people and they're currently recruiting. He worked unpaid for the first 5/6 years and it is only this year that it can now afford to pay him consultancy fees in line with market rates. The plan is to sell the business in around 3 years when it's worth 10-12 million. Obviously this is not guaranteed (actually far from it) and anything could go wrong particularly with the economy as it is.
He's also just become involved in another start up which could take off but equally may come to nothing.
I'm just so weary. I know we are in a very fortunate position. Whilst we have invested, the bulk of that investment has been time and expertise so the risk is low but it always feels like we're working and have seen little in the way of financial reward so far. I just want to know there is an end in sight.
Can you please share your stories of business success so I can see that it can work out in the end.
