Does your indoor dog, have an outdoor kennel?

Our dog lives indoors so he doesn’t have an outdoor kennel at all. He has a crate but no longer uses, and his bed. If he is out the garden he is supervised, and obviously isn’t out in bad weather. However, I was wondering do those
of you with indoor dogs, also have an outdoor dog kennel? And if so does your dog use it- what is your routine with kennel time? Thanks!

No. My dog is only outside if we are home and are able to supervise her and let her in/out when she wants. I'd never leave her shut outside.

What would be the purpose of an outdoor kennel?Confused

God no. My husband might be having one though...

He wouldn’t be shut in anywhere. I see him as my baby and he has a wonderful life. I spend most of my salary on him 😂 he has boxes of toys, mental enrichment etc. I just thought it might be good for him to have a space to chill in the garden with chew toys or if he wants a den space. He’d never be left out there!

No but they have access to sheds with dog beds and outdoor beds which are under an awning at the patio door but their favourite place is the very sheltered front door, they lie on the mat there. They have a dog door so can come in and out as they want but spend the majority of the day outside, we're in the countryside so big garden to run around sniffing, digging etc.

SirenSays · 13/07/2023 17:12

Yes I have two outdoor wooden kennels outside. They like to use them when it's hot weather and we have lots of friends over. They have never ever been locked outside.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/07/2023 17:13

If you want to get one for the reasons you describe, go ahead... he might or might not use it. I guess you'd need to sweep it out regularly and might find other critters living in it if it's not being used a lot by a dog.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 13/07/2023 17:15

No we just leave the back door open in good weather and he comes in and out as he pleases.

Azaeleasinbloom · 13/07/2023 17:15

No, if my two are outside, the back door is open for them . Never thought of an outdoor kennel, I am wondering if the spoiled buggers are, in fact, missing out ?

Lis1992 · 13/07/2023 17:15

@ErrolTheDragon that’s the thing he probably won’t use it! I’d be wary of bugs in it too. I was just chatting to someone about it today and I got me thinking, do most dog owners have one. I don’t actually want to get one. Does your dog have a kennel?

Next door have their dog out a lot, it barks a lot as well, when I go into our garden, when people walk down the road. Very loud, would never do this to ours

ErrolTheDragon · 13/07/2023 17:19

My dear old dog died last year, he never had a kennel. If it was hot he'd just find some shade - either a bush or under the garden table. I think that's what most do.

gogomoto · 13/07/2023 17:19

No but he like to make a den under a bush, he has a comfy bed inside

thirtyfivethirtyeight · 13/07/2023 17:25

We had an outdoor kennel for our dog and he loved it. Even on a cold day, he'd shout to be out in the garden and he'd go in there and sleep for ages. He knew what he liked!

ZoeyBartlett · 13/07/2023 17:30

No kennel but they do have a few outdoor dog beds - one in shade under hedge where they can also watch people on the footpath (and bark) www.snoozerpetproducts.co.uk/products/snoozer-outdoor-waterproof-rectangle-dog-bed

lionsleepstonight · 13/07/2023 18:08

I fancy one as am sure my dog would like an extra place for a shaded snooze. I'd never go out and leave her outside. I think she'd enjoy it. She loves to go in a tent outside so Id see it as similar.

Chypre · 13/07/2023 18:15

Our dogs snooze under the garden table that is under a pergola, so always shady/cool. Not a kennel, but definitely a den related behaviour here.
