What’s your favourite scary movie 😁

Love a horror movie but feel like I’ve exhausted them all 😂 so would love some new suggestions.

I like a jump scare, thriller, mystery, totally fine with blood and gore, never seen a home invasion one I didn’t like, not a fan of vampires at all and rarely enjoy zombies.

So hit me with your faves 😁

Do you like found footage? The best I’ve seen for jumpscares are Grave Encounters (1 and 2), Hell House LLC, Host, Blair Witch (the newest one), Gonjiam Haunted Asylum, Horror In The High Desert (more towards the end but still worth sitting through), The Taking of Deborah Logan.

Did you see Smile last year? That’s my newest favourite. Try Terrifier 1 and 2 if you fancy some extreme but still entertaining gore. Anything that James Wan has been involved in is good. Some of my favourite lesser known supernatural/haunting horrors are Still/Born, Don’t Knock Twice, Terrified (Spanish), Z, Lights Out, The Possession of Hannah Grace.
There’s a new one coming out soon called Malum, keep an eye out for it, the trailer made me scream!

Oh thank you! Some I’ve never heard of!

I still haven’t seen smile, too tight to pay for it 😂

thank you!

Smile is so good, try and find it!

WeThreeKingsofOrientAre · 13/07/2023 20:31

Try REC.

indecisivewoman81 · 13/07/2023 20:32

The new one called the popes exorcist was brilliant

WeThreeKingsofOrientAre · 13/07/2023 20:33

Don’t do any research first. Just find it and press play. It’s the 2007 version.

midsomermurderess · 13/07/2023 20:34

28 Days Later. I like the optional ending. Do you feel lucky?

I think we have similar tastes in horror films! Host and Grave encounters are two of my favourites.. there's a few you've mentioned that I haven't watched but am now going to! As above, so below is good too!

Cotswoldmama · 13/07/2023 20:52

Another vote for Host, loved it!

LuckyMoonstone · 13/07/2023 21:00

@train84 yess AASB it’s such a good one! JeruZalem is kinda similar.
@indecisivewoman81 Popes Exorcist is on my list to watch asap, good to hear good reviews of it

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 13/07/2023 22:55

Oh yes loved Host!

I think I def need to rent Smile now! And have a love list of movies to get through now 😁

thanks all!

The Orphanage is scary. Not one single "trick" is new, but so well done. When I saw it DVD I noticed one scene had been censored, but it may have been restored by now.
The Grudge - original Japanese version.

echt · 13/07/2023 23:05

Smile is on Binge - at least it is in Australia. The streaming companies have different films in different areas and yes, way better range of films in the UK Hmm

Trickofthetrade · 13/07/2023 23:05

The Shining and Carrie. Old school, I know. Something about the lack of special effects seems to make them scarier.

OddsOn · 14/07/2023 00:27

The Descent a British almost all woman cast, Gore, claustrophobia, deceit.
Shutter a ghost story with retribution
30 Days of night
Mama

Another vote for REC here

Return2thebasic · 14/07/2023 00:57

Try Japanese ones... Start from the R I N G.

I don't even want to type the name - too scared after 20 odd years!

ManAboutTown · 14/07/2023 01:13

Some of the 70s / early 80s ones were superb - The Exorcist, The Omen, Amityville Horror, Halloween, Friday the Thirteenth

Still fancy Jamie Lee Curtis 😋

Furries · 14/07/2023 02:09

Agree with PPs re older films and lack of special effects - The Omen, The Shining, Carrie, etc.

I found Hostel quite disturbing.

Mostly, I tend to watch something and then erase it from my memory - I’m too susceptible to nightmares!

Sadly I live in Denmark where our streaming services often have less then the U.K. 🙄😂

Im definitely hunting smile down now though!

Thank you!

Oh I LOVED the descent! Must rewatch that one. Hostel weirded me out and I’m generally unweirded out by movies but it was a bit much 😂

I sometimes forget about the oldies but goodies! Must do a rewatch of some of them also.

I’m v pleased with my lists of movies to watch now!

I watched Scream VI yesterday which was fine, let’s be honest the newer ones kind of suck but it’s Scream! You can’t not watch Scream 😁

Hereditary
Midsommer
The Witch (or the VVitch)
Get Out
Mother! (It definitely has horrifying scenes, that's for sure) and it's by far my favourite!!
