Facebook marketplace etiquette

I’m listed some things on Facebook marketplace.

Some people have commented on the post, others on messenger. Is it the first person in line or is there any unwritten rule about where people should post to secure an item?

Oh I should say for context they are free.

First to ask usually. Unless they haven't said please then the first to say please gets it!

Thank you 😊

I've started saying first to collect from (general location) with cash gets it. No holds. Message for address.

People message, give them address and make it clear its whoever pitches up first with cash in hand gets it.

It's usually gone in the hour. I learned from so many 'I'll take it', 'interested', 'is this still available?' Messages and promised it to flaky shites who never pitch up either in on time, on the right day or indeed ever.

I tend to get 10 'yes I'll have it!' responses and only one person actually pitches up. I do have the courtesy to let them know it's gone though.

And if it's free it's even worse. People message 'me please' then there's a slow barrage of reasons why they can't collect until the next blue moon.

Delist and relist with 'message for address if interested, first to arrive gets it'. Totally weeds out the shit tonne of flaky fuckers.

First to put cash in your hand gets the item

Don't hold on for somebody who will let you down when you could sell to somebody else

I tend to wait a little while and then have a look at the peoples profiles. Then choose someone I think looks ok. It doesn't always work but mostly ok. I tell them to message me when they are on the way for the exact address.

Thanks all, great tips.

Someone just asked me if I deliver! For free stuff. Cheeky so and so.

Fb marketplace is full of chancers.

Agree with pp, don’t get drawn into ‘holding’ items for people. Most people who mess me about I just block now, it’s not worth the hassle.

Collection only, in cash, job done.
