Last Sunday when I took my grandchild to a car boot sale.

Before that? Cannot remember.

Newestname002 · 13/07/2023 07:48

Frequently- last time was a week ago to pay taxi fare. 🌹

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 13/07/2023 07:50

Today for petrol.

RaininSummer · 13/07/2023 07:50

Yesterday as my hairdresser doesn't do cards. Rarely otherwise though.

BCCoach · 13/07/2023 07:56

I use it every week for the greengrocers who is cash only. The one thing I really resent is our local taxi firm which is strictly cash only, even if you prebook for the airport. So if I need to get an early flight for work and can’t take the train I need to remember to get £100 cash out. Then our finance dept queries why I’ve put a cash reimbursement on expenses with a crappy hand written ‘receipt’ instead of using my corporate card EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Thriwit · 13/07/2023 07:59

Yesterday, I bought a chocolate bar. I needed change for DD’s school fair today.
I think the only time I use cash nowadays is for school - charity days/fairs etc.

I find cash a pita, especially for budgeting. Sorting it and tracking it in my bank account is far easier.

Carsarelife · 13/07/2023 08:03

Most days per week. Unless I go somewhere that is cards only I try to use cash. Went to Chessington last weekend and that was cards only. Went to Devon week before and spent cash there.
Going to Jimmys Farm this weekend hope that's not card only.
I like cash and want to keep it.

Magnoliainbloom · 13/07/2023 08:05

Monday. Found 20 quid on the floor. Gave it to a homeless person.

Thunderpunt · 13/07/2023 08:05

I wish people would recognise how much it costs small business to take card transactions and use cash more where it's accepted. Some jump in accusing businesses of trying to avoid tax, but the truth is it costs thousands each year to process card transactions. My annual bill for merchant bank charges plus the rental of the machine runs to over £2k for the past 12 months. Inevitably those costs have to be passed on by way of price increases. Cash on the other hand holds its value, £20 remains £20 and all I pay out is the VAT on it.

100% this!

mydogisthebest · 13/07/2023 08:14

Last week. 3 days in London and I used cash most days to pay for meals, coffee etc.

I don't want to see a cashless society so am using cash quite a lot.

Where I live in East Midlands quite a few places only take cash

ohtowinthelottery · 13/07/2023 08:18

On Saturday I was at an outdoor event where the Internet signal was poor so everyone had to use cash - they had been pre-warned this would be the case.

I left a cash tip in a cafe on Tuesday.

Parked in a pay and display car park in mid Wales the weekend before last where there was no other option but to pay by cash.

Saw a SM post yesterday for a big outdoor event locally which takes place at the weekend. You can't take your own alcohol into the event (but picnics allowed ) and the announcement said that the official bar at the event will only take card payments. There was absolute outrage in the comments under the post about being unable to use cash, which really surprised me.

Gamerlady · 13/07/2023 08:19

Yesterday at the supermarket and at various other shops

User6424678852 · 13/07/2023 08:20

Yesterday (£250 received for a sale on Gumtree), and will do again today (£15 for something I am buying on Gumtree).

I love that it is its own micro-economy (cash on Gumtree). I have a jar that I use for the money and it’s completely self sustaining. I haven’t had to top it up for years.

AuntieMarys · 13/07/2023 08:21

Maddy70 · 13/07/2023 08:22

I pay my cleaner in cash and I have money to a homeless man and a busker yesterday

Maddy70 · 13/07/2023 08:23

CharlotteStreetW1 · 12/07/2023 23:16

I'm on holiday in Europe. Cash is very much king here still.

Really? I live in spain even our buskers use bizzum

BitOutOfPractice · 13/07/2023 08:28

Yesterday. My hairdresser doesn’t take cards. Before that, the last time I went to the hairdresser. Love the convenience of using card.

Indigotree · 13/07/2023 08:28

I prefer cash and also it's difficult for some people to get bank cards (I had to argue with the manager at the Cooperative Bank to be allowed one when I was on disability benefits, for example). It's also easier to overspend by mistake as transactions don't show up immediately.
Another issue is that card transactions are traceable (another problem for disabled people whose benefits can be stopped if they're found capable of travelling to visit family or going to the shops).

Indigotree · 13/07/2023 08:29

Plus it's just nicer.

BiddyPop · 13/07/2023 08:30

Tuesday. Paying for an alteration.

Before that - Friday night for a taxi

Before that - probably 3/4 weeks ago for parking meter (coins - others were notes).

I usually keep some cash in my wallet, but am mostly in the habit of just carrying my credit card in my phone cover and not bothering with wallet these days. Haven't yet adopted Revolut or put my cards on my phone itself.

Ejismyf · 13/07/2023 08:30

Every day

mortgagequandary · 13/07/2023 08:33

Today

slavetothekittens · 13/07/2023 08:41

Couple of days ago at a cash only chippy. Then I paid cash for a few things from a charity shop.

I like to have a bit of cash in my purse for those just-in-case-you-need-it moments.

Davros · 13/07/2023 08:49

If you use your phone for payments, what if there's a poor or no signal?
