Popping this in chat for traffic...

Id really like to stretch out of my comfort zone and take my family on a holiday outside of Europe - I just don't know where to start.

Can anyone recommend a website/blog, etc that features holiday ideas for families that don't break the bank? We'd love to see a bit more of the world, but not having parents that travel, and only ever staying 'safe' on previous holidays, I feel like I could do with a hand hold.

We would consider anywhere in the world, but wouldn't be on an endless budget. Any advice/signposting welcomed.

Thanks MN!

Belize? I have a friend who took her family on an amazing holiday there.

What sort of holiday are you looking for? Do you want a longer haul beach based holiday or are you looking for activities/culture/wildlife?
Companies like Explore are good for ideas. They also do small group trips for families.

Start with what kinds of things you like to do/see/eat.

I like to look at fancy travel companies and see what I can do in the same places on the cheap!

Recent good family destinations? South Korea, Iceland and Central America.

Have a look at Intrepid or gap adventures just for ideas on destinations and itineraries. You don't have to book via them but it's good to see how many nights in each place.
For example:
Thailand - Cambodia - Vietnam
A tour round Sri Lanka
Costa Rica
Safari
Mexico
Road trip across US
Cuba
