Someone has shaved my cat’s bum (pic)

…and cut her fur in different places, including where her spay scar is. Unless she’s suddenly losing fur all over? But her bum, I noticed her girl bits were really prominent all of a sudden yesterday and on closer inspection her fur on her bum has suddenly and immediately got really short.

should i take her to the vets for fur loss or am I right that someone’s shaved her? Not a great photo but see how prominent her girl bits are without fur

I'd assume either fur loss or she's been in a fight?

Soubriquet · 12/07/2023 19:09

I would also assume fur loss or fight. It doesn’t look shaved.

Gymmum82 · 12/07/2023 19:10

Looks like flea allergic dermatitis

Sometimes cats lose fur around the area where an abscess has formed, the bum/back leg area being a very common sire of them. She needs to go to the vets for a check up either way

RoseBucket · 12/07/2023 19:17

Agree it looks like flea allergy.

VeryQuaintIrene · 12/07/2023 19:22

I love that the site put a sensitive content warning on your poor girl's behind.

Well it is a shaved pussy…

lampformyfeet · 12/07/2023 19:25

It looks like over grooming and can be flea related. Get a wet piece of A4 and hold her over it with her front legs raised. Rub her coat vigorously and catch what falls off on the paper. Flea dirts are dried blood and will form red streaks.

VeryQuaintIrene · 12/07/2023 19:30

@TappingTed haha - true!

Fiddlerdragon · 12/07/2023 19:32

Looks like it’s time for a vet. Could be loads of different things. My first thought from the description was ringworm

PencilsInSpace · 12/07/2023 19:34

There have been a lot of shaving attacks recently on cats in parts of the country. If you genuinely think she has been shaved you should report to the police.

Shaved cat

Alert issued in Kent after cats shaved in spate of attacks

More than 50 "alarming" shaving incidents have been reported across Kent and London, a charity says.

Is it possible someone thinks she's theirs and has taken her to be spayed, and the vet has shaved, seen the scar and stopped? Is it properly shaved or just a bit patchy? Could the shaved bum be considered a 'hygiene trim'? Where else is her fur missing?

I had a cat that licked all the fur off the inside of his back legs fur to a flea allergy. He was bald from licking, but when vet shaved it left velvety stubble.

Grimchmas · 12/07/2023 19:49

Take her to the vets to get her anal glands done.

StellaJohanna · 12/07/2023 19:57

anal glands or flea allergy? I can't see where she has been shaved and if so, they would have done more of her fur, if that makes sense

lilyboleyn · 12/07/2023 20:29

Okay, thanks very much. It’s annoying because I gave her frontline a few weeks back, and she has a flea collar too…

lilyboleyn · 12/07/2023 20:31

Oh, but she’s got no sores or cuts anywhere… will book a vet appointment asap anyway.

Frontline doesn’t work very well and fleas are often resistant these days. The drug has been around for a long.

PriamFarrl · 12/07/2023 22:35

It could be an abscess. My old girl had a few after a fight and the first sign was her hair coming off in clumps.
