Help! Why does my Alexa keep roaring at me?!

Kpo58 · 12/07/2023 10:12

My Alexa keeps roaring at me and I'm beginning to loose my mind. About 45% of the time I ask it to play a song and it says in human words that it's playing X song from wherever, but the other 45% of the time it just roars at me and then plays the song (the other 10% of time it just ignores me).

Does anyone know how to stop this from happening? I've had no luck so far with googleing the answer.

What does it roar?

cocksstrideintheevening · 12/07/2023 10:28

need some elaboration on roaring...

InceyWinceySpidy · 12/07/2023 10:40

Are you asking for Eye of the Tiger?

Kpo58 · 12/07/2023 11:32

It's literally like a roaring lion like you would find on a nature programme.

I haven't been asking for Eye of the Tiger.

Who do you live with?

Sosbanfachtheresatellyinmybath · 12/07/2023 11:38

Someone has changed the settings.
I turned my mother's Alexa into a cat for 24 hours 🤣 She was baffled!

stayathomer · 12/07/2023 11:39

Buy a radio and record player and shut her down!!!!

DemonicCaveMaggot · 12/07/2023 11:41

Do you have your windows open? Some bastard might be going down the street and yelling instructions turning everyone's Alexas into lions while walking into work.

How did you do that? I can't find anything that changes voice settings and it's been going on for months now. 😱

It's definitely not been changed from someone outside as it's not near the front of the house and my neighbours aren't tech savvy.

Holy water.

You can say…

  • Alexa, open Animal Sounds
  • Alexa, tell Animal Sounds to play a guessing game
  • Alexa, ask Animal Sounds to imitate any animal
  • Alexa, tell Animal Sounds imitate a Lion
  • Alexa, ask Animal Sounds what animals sounds can you make

Here are a few you should try: baboon, bear, bobcat, cat, cow, coyote, hippopotamus, lemur, lion, spider, monkey, spider monkey, rooster, and many more.

Someone can also do it through their Alexa and can talk through yours. Not sure how to do that though and it might scare the shit out of my mother 🤣

NotAMissionPriority · 12/07/2023 12:07

Open the Alexa app.
Click on Devices.
Find yours, click on it
Then click on the sun shape in the top right hand corner. It'll be in there somewhere. This is where you can make the voice male/female and America /English/Indian. You can also make it make (or not make) the recognition noise. I don't see how you could make that noise a roar on mine as it's a very old one but perhaps you can on yours.

Kpo58 · 12/07/2023 12:25

Mine doesn't have roar on mine either under the settings and it's not every time it does it either.

It's possessed. I'd suggest contacting an exorcist (available at any Catholic church).

AssertiveGertrude · 12/07/2023 12:28

I’m thinking this could provide summer entertainment for the kids this July and august 🤣🤣

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/07/2023 12:35

@whirlyhead 😂

OneMoreCookieMonster · 12/07/2023 12:39

I think she's going rogue! Mine doesn't listen to me. I'll ask her the time for example she'll start to reply and then stops without giving me the time. But, asked the same question by any other family member and she answers. I've tried asking more than once, tried speaking slower, waiting for light/listen signal to show and flash. I think she hates me and my North American accent

I NEED to know how to do this!

Voodoogurl · 12/07/2023 14:55

My Alexa has been roaring at me do for the last few days, happened every time I asked for a song (starts with a double roar), and stumbled on your query today. I think I managed to resolve mine just now.

  1. Open alexa app on your phone
  2. Device settings
  3. Go to the Device which is roaring at you
  4. Settings icon at top right
  5. General > Sounds
  6. Request Sounds > Start of request (Toggle it on and off a couple of time, keep it on in the end)
  7. Say 'Alexa, play Cruel Summer'-- and no roaring..!!
Kpo58 · 14/07/2023 13:31

Thanks. I'm trying this now and fingers crossed that it will actually work. Both Alexa's have been roaring at me so far.

Interesting

Lenax · 06/01/2024 22:11

Op our Alexa also growls before playing a song, a google torubleshooting searching lead me to this thread.....did you find a fix?

BlouseyBrownMalone · 06/01/2024 22:16

I know nothing of this...however I have noticed on our Alexa show this week, the animal sounds game is on the screen so it must be being promoted at the moment.

Andthereyougo · 06/01/2024 22:23

Open Alexa app and reset to factory settings?
