Help! Late period, negative pregnancy test- age 41

I have posted this to the Conception board but also posting here for traffic.

I’m going out of my head here!

My period was due on Monday 10th (posting on Wednesday 12th). It hasn’t arrived. All pregnancy tests are negative.

I have just turned 41 and ttc.

I usually have a 26 day cycle but last month it was only 23 days which was weird.

I was pregnant late last year until January this year when I sadly had to have a termination for medical reasons at 18 weeks. It was devastating.

My periods returned immediately and were fine and we have been ttc since February (tbh it would have been good to have more time to process everything and grieve but at my age - then age 40- we didn’t have time to do so).

I usually have a 26 day cycle, sometimes it is shorter. It has never in my life been longer. I’m never ever late.

I’m terrified if I’m not pregnant that these erratic periods might be a sign of early menopause meaning I’ll never have a baby and given what we went through earlier this year that just devastates me.

Has anyone got any advice- is it possible I could be pregnant with negative pregnancy tests or more likely my body getting older? What can I do to be sure, are there very sensitive pregnancy tests that are recommended so I know for sure that I’m definitely not pregnant?

Sorry for rambling it’s just with our loss I’m going out of my head and this limbo feels extra cruel.

I'm sorry about your loss. I would say, from my personal experience, that 41 is about the age when my periods started going a bit weird. Sometimes 20 day cycle, sometimes 40, even 50. In my case, it's definitely perimenopause. That's not to say you can't still get pregnant though as lots of women get pregnant when perimenopausal.

Hello fellow TFMR, the club none of us ever want to be in! It’s sucks and I play the mind games of what if all the time. Sending you a massive hug and sympathies, it’s not your fault.

Does sound like AF will come soon but don’t loose hope, I know a few mums who have been caught out and pregnant at 44/45. You could maybe ask your GP to run some blood work to check on hormones levels etc.

Sending you a big hug as I know how this messes with your mind and nothing can I say can make you feel better. Just know you aren’t alone x

I also think perimenopause.
From around 38 my periods changed quite drastically, and carried on being erratic for around a decade.
The first few years for me were just a very gradually decreasing cycle.
By around 44 I was down to a three week cycle, but also started to miss a couple of periods completely randomly, or once or twice even had a 17 day cycle!
I once skipped a period for 3 months at about 46, took numerous pregnancy tests, eventually booked a doctor's appointment, only to start my period that day.
Perimenopause is such an unpredictable time for periods, and it goes on so long.

Unfortunately this was the time when my periods started to stop. I'm now fully through the menopause at the age of 43. Maybe asked the doctor to check via blood tests x

@Fourlegsandatail
Hey, can I ask how you got on, was it perimenopause? I'm 38 and ttc, my period is now a week late with bfns

I'm going out of my mind with worry x

@AD1986 I am sorry to hear that. I didn’t get a period that month but I have had periods since and they are pretty regular now. Good luck.
