Severe cramp under right rib

Does anyone else have this? Since I had a c section 6 years ago I get horrendous cramp under my right rib. It's mainly when I bend forwards to tie my shoelaces or reach behind me eg to scratch the bottom of my back.
It's absolutely excruciating and feels like something pops out from under my rib and gets stuck. I have to reach up tall and take deep breaths for about 10 seconds until it pops back in.
Any idea?

I get this since having kids is it like a muscle spasm? I get it if I crouch too much, it’s like the muscle is cramping and poking out then it eases but it’s still painful for a while after? I’ve never thought about it until reading your post!!

I also have this. It 's got less frequent over the years but still happens now and then. It is very painful when it happens.

dudsville · 12/07/2023 08:07

Gallbladder pain?

SilverDrawer · 12/07/2023 08:09

Yes! Also rib cramps since having my child 15 years ago.

anywherebutthere · 12/07/2023 08:15

So strange isn't it. I hadn't had it for a few months, but was just reaching behind in the shower and it popped out and was excruciating. I wonder why it happens?

Mines on the right hand side, is everyone's on the same side?

Same. GP can't explain.
If I take my time putting on socks or shoes I have to suddenly straighten up so the weird cramp goes away.

SilverDrawer · 12/07/2023 08:17

I’m trying to think, I think mine varies, but mostly on the left.

I was really worried to start with, but am resigned to it after all these years 😃

AmbleInAnnBoleyn · 12/07/2023 08:17

Yep right hand side.

Brumbies · 12/07/2023 08:19

I suffer the same cramping, it can really stop me in my tracks it's so painful.

southernbelles · 12/07/2023 08:32

I have this too!! I have googled it so many times so was weirdly excited to see this thread as knew what it would be about straight away 😅 yes I get this since having my first child 6 years ago, usually in the shower or bending down to get something. It definitely stops me in my tracks & I have to straighten up very quickly & take deep breaths; sometimes I can see it sort of cramping

anywherebutthere · 12/07/2023 08:34

Strange that it affects so many people, but no-one knows what it is!

I have this but on my left side and like you say, it feels like something pops out, like a hernia.
My dr didn’t seem worried, said it was most likely a digestive issue and to drink more water 🤷🏼‍♀️

JustOneMoreSec · 12/07/2023 09:28

Oh my god! I could have written this! I've been to the physio, got a scan done and... NADA! So weird! It can feel really debilitating sometimes!

Bringonthepitchforks · 12/07/2023 10:00

Yes it feels like the ribs have folded over each other and god stuck. It's horrible!

FictionalCharacter · 12/07/2023 10:04

Yes I get something like this. It's usually if I'm sitting down and bend to pick something up. It's extremely painful but I've always thought it's just some kind of muscle cramp.

anywherebutthere · 12/07/2023 10:27

I thought they put my organs back in the wrong place after my c-section, but maybe not seeing these replies!

I used to get this as a kid, then it came back a few years ago. It's really nasty! Definitely does feel like something gets stuck in the wrong place, if I've bent over too far - picking something up off the floor of the car always sets it off.

cocksstrideintheevening · 12/07/2023 10:34

Yes me too - right hand side! It's exruciating

satellitesunshine · 12/07/2023 10:34

omg i get this too and always thought it was just me, how weird that it’s so common and nobody mentions it 😂

Trenda · 12/07/2023 10:49

I get it too. I only became aware of it after a right sided mastectomy. I assumed it was connected to the surgery or radiation treatment but it seems not from pps.

Its always in exactly the same place under my ribs and when im bending forward and reaching to do something with my hands at the same time.

Brumbies · 12/07/2023 10:49

Maybe a nurse or dr on here might see the thread and offer some advice.

Yes that's when I get it. A deep bend forward and reaching.
I've never bothered about it that much - if I stretch upwards and press under my ribs it goes away. I assume it's cramp in the diaphragm.

CosyCoffee · 12/07/2023 10:55

I get this, and I'm pretty sure it's slipping rib syndrome

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slippingribb_syndrome

But I call it 'my hernia' because that's what I always thought it was. I get it when I bend over from seated, or sometimes from sneezing.

SwedishEdith · 12/07/2023 21:17

I get this as well. Often when reaching down quickly for something when seated. Has happened a few times on trains so quite difficult to keep your expression neutral as it's quite a breathtaking pain. I assumed some sort of cramp of my diaphragm as well.
