Trying to find a nearby location that fits the following requirements

  • at least 30 minutes out of town ideally south of Edinburgh or up to around an hour
  • Easily accessible by train from London and Edinburgh
  • trains or public transport go there until 11pm ish Sunday nights

this is for the Taylor Swift concert! Looking at prices in the city we need to be at least half an hour out for a cheap enough stay.

I’ve looked at big places like Berwick on tweed as far enough away to be cheap but the Sunday trains back the latest seems to be 9pm which is too early.
ideally South as if we end up driving if train proves too expensive or strikes etc then we don’t add to our journey.

any suggestions much appreciated!

You'd be better going the Fife route and staying in one of the towns where the main train line runs through. Agree with FionnulaTheCooler Fife is your best choice for price and getting home. You can get off at Inverkeithing station then taxi to wherever you're staying

Hire a car in Edinburgh?

Sheknowsnow · 12/07/2023 10:21

I would recommend looking at hotels in the gyle area of Edinburgh, it's a business park with several hotels and 2 tram stops from Murrayfield. You've got Ibis budget hotel, premier Inn, travel lodge to name a few.

The presale is this week, general sale next...

hotels are all booked or sky high for that weekend

Though to get fair OP, you could wait a few months and look again - some will be booked just in case and released and some hotels don’t have booking that far in advance.

You could also look at booking the Happy Bus. Pick up will be from Murrayfield 45 mins after the concert, various destinations including Glasgow and Dundee where there should be hotels available. The website doesn't show anything for the Sunday yet, but might come on line soon?

Checked the dates and Livingston could work, looks like there are late train and buses and hotels not too ridiculous.
My top tip for concerts is to get the playlist and nip out just before end of last song .
