Are high buns still fashionable

I’m going to a formal event soon and want to have my hair in a high bun but one of my friends said they’re really old fashioned and only low buns are in style now.

This is the sort of thing I wanted as I’m just not sure the low bun works on me!

Wear what suits you

ILikeDinosaurs · 11/07/2023 19:23

Low buns don't suit me either, they make me look like a granny!

Wear what you like, that particular style though is a bit Linda Carter tbh. A softer, less 'done' bun might look more modern.

On my clinic days I wear my very long hair up in a high bun. I always get compliments on it.

@ILikeDinosaurs yes I feel like that re looking like a granny which is such a shame as they look great on some people. I’ll look into a softer version thank you 😊

I sometimes shove my hair in a messy mid head bun. I wouldn't suit a high or low one

Talliaaaaaa · 11/07/2023 19:50

I have very long thick hair, I often do a molly-mae bun for work. Or I put my hair up in a high pony, plait the pony, then pull the plait apart to loosen it IYSWIM then wrap it in a bun.

Buns are great. Especially if you have long / thick hair.

Talliaaaaaa · 11/07/2023 19:52

I also do a 'croissant' bun. Just tie your hair like you're doing a pony but on the last pull through, don't pull it through, sort of split it apart and pull it to the top of your head. And there you have it, a lovely croissant sat on top of your head! (See below)

I like them. I twist my hair up before I put it in the bun and then later I can yank it out and have this messy curly look that I think looks nice.

Hi @Candlesandflowers i think a high bun looks so elegant. When i do that hairstyle i swear it takes 10 years off me! Looks amazing, go for it x

SparkyBlue · 11/07/2023 20:12

I like them but I think like everything to do with hair its all about what suits you and what works for your own hair.

Xrays · 11/07/2023 20:20

High buns need to be messy and look effortless to be “in” at the moment. Lots of volume and bits falling out. Then you won’t look “Peru two” 😆

Loafbeginsat60 · 11/07/2023 20:31

I love a high messy bun and think they are really elegant if done properly.

They make me look taller and my face slimmer too!! Win win

Agree, i love them.

You need a really gamine face to suit a low bun, otherwise granny.

Perhaps a French twist?

I like that look! I try it myself but it goes wonky :)

I always struggle to get a decent looking ‘messy’ bun when i try, however when I just shove it up as I’m about to clean the bathroom it often seems to looks fabulous 😂
