How to make supermarket flowers look posher?

I need to buy a couple of bunches of flowers, but I don't have much cash.
I have seen people buy supermarket flowers, and pimp them up with some brown paper and raffia ribbon or similar.
I'm a bit useless with cut flowers, I just plonk them in a vase and watch them die!
Any tips to make supermarket flowers look upmarket?

If you buy from Waitrose and take them to the customer service desk, they will re wrap them in proper tissue paper!

Otherwise

Buy 2 or more bunches of the same flower (keeping to a single colour or small range of colours always looks classier
Make sure they are as fresh as possible (longest sell by date)

You can actually make carnations look better by pulling out the centre petals. Can you pick greenery from your garden? adding herbs looks lovely. I love adding rosemary. Plus when arranging too many people have stems that are too long for the vase. I like putting wild looking flowers in a jug that I have country style on my kitchen window sill. I am not a professional florist but have made wedding bouquets, many arrangements, church flowers and wreaths. I suppose it’s a serious hobby.

Ooh! Thank you. I didn't know that about Waitrose.
Thank you for the video too, and the tips FlowersSmile

Charity shop jug or vase! Add greenery from garden. Arrange nicely in vase, can't go wrong.

Sellotape a “grid” across the top of a vase, when you add the flowers they hold their place much better and look more put together. (I’m sure if you Google this a video/better instructions will come up).

Strip all the leaves from roses and add separate greenery/foliage.

I always add extra foliage - picked by hand to supermarket flowers and simply cutting the packaging off in favour of brown paper and a ribbon

Or if you really want to go for it then get some of that green absorbent block you can wet and make an arrangement that doesn't look like a "bunch" but a florist's arrangement- you'll need to fully cover it with foliage and flowers and trim lengths to make it look right so it's some work but enjoyable

You can cut and stack the block to whatever shape you desire
