Bonus points for pics and links to hotels and activities that you did

I have wanderlust and a bit of a dreamer, and I’m building up my bucket list places, so there’s that an im always on the look out for places that make a smashing hols to take the Dcs. Even if it’s not now but in 2/3/4 years- it’s nice to have something to look forward to or aspire to, especially now.

My places I’d love to go would be Borneo and Indonesia (see the orangutans) and the Maldives (it just looks dreamy) and french Polynesia (also dreamy)

I've been to Borneo, it's cool to see the orangs and proboscis monkeys but depressing seeing the miles. and miles, and miles, and miles of palm plantations. Climbing mount Kinabalu is worth doing too though. I've been to Bali only in Indonesia - I an completely in love with the temples and enjoyed Ubud. I found Kuta very depressing though - like Magaluf for Australians. I have last memories of a chained up monkey there but also of the awful treatment of Kopi Luwak civet cats in the coffee industry all over Bali. These are shy, nocturnal creatures and one guy was riding around showing off in the day time with one poor thing clinging to the back of his motorbike.

I would recommend Jordan, small so easy to get from top to bottom, Petra and Wadi Rum are just amazing and there are lots of other places to visit including Roman ruins.
Italy - everywhere is so beautiful. I just don't think you can go wrong with Italy.
Spain - so much to love with Spain. Mallorca is wonderful, Caminito del Rey is like nothing else, Cies Isles - so beautiful. El Torcal - just amazing. I could spend a lifetime travelling around Spain.
Mexico the Yucatan Peninsula - stay out of Cancun and PDC. See the ruins at Tulum, Coba, Chichen Itza etc, visit the cenotes, swim with turtles and whale sharks, Holbox Island is gorgeous, visit Xcaret and Xel-ha for fun days out. Just watch out for sargassum season.
Thailand - I have such a soft spot for Thailand, it's so beautiful and the people are just so wonderful.

Oh gosh that does sound depressing! Seeing the destruction of natural habitat first hand!

ive done Jordan, liked it. Liked the people- but I feel like it’s a one and done for me
never done Italy- would love to do that too!
love the idea of Mexico- went and then got caught in a hurricane so evacuated. Missed a lot of it. Stuck in uni cancun… do not recommend that haha

thailand does look good too!!

Last year, South of France in a villa with our own pool. Drove down with DD and DSiL. Other DD and her partner joined us.

Lovely villa and huge pool meant we had plenty of space. Good location so people could take themselves off to do sightseeing. Lots of history to see.

We haven't gone on holiday this year because last year was so good!

I loved Thailand, I went to Koh Phangan and Koh Samui. Beautiful beaches, lovely people, friendly pp, cheap, delicious food. V spiritual. Also loved Krakow, Berlin, Barcelona and Budapest.

Appalonia · 11/07/2023 22:00

I also really liked Marakesh. I know some pp have said they were harassed there, I probably wasn't cos I was with my boyfriend. I have had the best food I've ever had abroad and we did a cooking course and made the most delicious meal I've ever had!

My absolute favourite which I would love to revisit is Slovenia. I have a thing about lakes and Mountains anyway. Very pretty. The people were friendly and the food was a mix of Austrian and Italian with local stuff as well. I remember a mahoosive round doughnut with lovely balkan jam inside (not normally a doughnut eater but this was fab).

Walking in Saas-Fee and staying here: https://www.youthhostel.ch/en/hostels/saas-fee-wellness-hostel-4000/
It has a pool and a spa.

I’m going back to Slovenia in September @Deathraystare . Can’t wait.

I’ll have to report back but we’re going to Pompei, Vesuvius and Rome in October which I expect to be a brilliant holiday.

Egypt. Pyramids, sleeper train, river Nile, Saqqara, Egypt Museum, Philae Temple, High Dam, Abu Simbel, Unfinished Obelisk, Karnak Temple, Valley of the Kings and Queens, Hatshepsut Temple, Avenue of Sphinxes, Colossi of Memnon, Alexandria Library, Khan el-Khalili. Stayed at Pyramids View Inn, then the Bob Marley Guesthouse, then Kendaka Nubian House, then Djorff Palace, then Alexandria Sea View Suites, then Villa Belle Epoque. Best holiday I've ever had, didn't experience any harassment as I was told I would (may be down to luck and being brown), and it hardly cost anything considering everything we did!
