Over 6 months ttc

I know it's all quite anecdotal but just hoping for some reassurance. If it took you over 6 months to conceive how long did it take?

I feel like it's often "oh we fell first cycle" or "we needed ivf" and was hoping there might be a happy medium!

Especially interested if it was a second or third child as it is our second time around. First time it took 5 months.
Many thanks!

Also I know there is a conception board but wanted to cast the net wider!

We were trying for just over a year - ended up booking a private fertility consultation just to know where we stood - we got the results of our scans (to say everything looked fine) approximately 4 days after my positive test!

The specialist explained the stats to me and I won’t do them justice, and someone else on here definitely knows more than me, but adjusting for our ages etc, he said we had a 15% chance of conceiving on each cycle. I had rather naively assumed that if we timed it right, the odds were in our favour that it would result in a baby.

@Snowonthebeachx Hello, just to reassure you I'm reaching TTC month 5, first time trying to conceive.
My friends who have conceived all happened to do so within 2 months so I can feel your frustration!

I wouldn't worry about it too much, since I'm a control freak I researched as much as I could and have started trying a conception cup to increase the chances of sperm reaching the cervix (since I have a high cervix). Unfortunately our bodies don't listen to us on this one and we just have to accept what comes (as annoying as this is) but good luck!!

Thanks and congratulations @QueenOfWeeds

I think I had subconsciously factored in about 6 months so now starring to worry a bit.

Hearing other people's stories really helpful!

Several years of TTC for one of mine, one and done for the other 2.

I read a book called “The Impatient Woman’s Guide to Pregnancy” which basically said we are so used to being able to control not being pregnant through contraception that it is a really difficult mindset that we also can’t control becoming pregnant. That really helped me - it feels like when you remove the barriers to being pregnant, it should naturally happen without any effort at all. Sadly not. Good luck on your journey.

Just over one year. But we weren't too focused, it was more a "let's stop contreception and see what happens".

We also had work project and my dad dying in that year so in some months we ignored calendars and everything.

In the end it happened on holiday.

@QueenOfWeeds I have read this too when we were ttc no1 and it was useful! I am a very impatient woman.

This was similar to us. Somewhere between a year to 18 months, but some months it was more like we were using the rhythm method of contraception than TTC. Hard to say which attempts really counted.

Just about got around to being proactive and doing ovulation tests, only had sex once at the right week after not getting a positive ovulation test, and currently getting the shit kicked out of my ribs.
