Picnic ideas please!

I've been invited to an event this week, an outdoors gig with a picnic before. You can take your own food, camping chairs, etc. All good. But I don't know what food to take! Any ideas please? I don't want to just take a couple of supermarket sandwiches, nothing with dairy in, something easy to carry, not necessarily something to share. I'm coming up with pork pies and sausage rolls but they're not very inspiring. Any ideas please?

Take anti pasta items ie olives etc, hummus, cheese, ham, cherry tomatoes, crackers, baguette, grapes, strawberries, bottle of Prosecco or white wine.

Boiled eggs. Coleslaw. Real lemonade and a fruit salad. Nothing too fiddly or delicate.

Preferably food you can pick up and eat without making a mess and that you don't need cutlery for. However do take cutlery, plate cup and a bottle opener

Falafel and hummus with nice bread sticks

Filled pita breads, cut them in half to make two pockets, fill with salad, falafel, ham etc. Take some dressing with you in a small jar, honey & mustard or vinaigrette.
Or make up some wraps, shredded duck, watercress, cucumber & spring onion, or roast beef, rocket and pickle.
They will travel well, and be easy to eat.
Fruit, chopped & peeled will travel safely in a small lidded carton or bowl, as will salads such as grated carrot, or tomato.

Our favourite stuff (bear in mind this includes food for kids)

  • cold chicken drumsticks
  • boiled eggs
  • cherry tomatoes and mini cucumbers
  • satsumas and melon slices
  • French baguette. I slice it longwise and butter then wrap and we tear it into chunks when we're ready to eat, keeps it fresher.
  • individual packets of crips
  • mini rolls/penguin bars/club bars.

During lockdown when picnics were the only thing you could do, we got a bit more creative and purchased a couple of food flasks so we could take things like

  • sausages (proper ones not the boiled jarred ones), hot dog buns and condiments for Hot dogs on the park
  • ice cream/ice lollies
  • chilli with tortilla chips for dipping or crumbling on top
  • soup and fresh bread for dunking
