Not going back to normal after norovirus

I had norovirus a few weeks ago, with 24 hours of severe D&V. Ever since I'm having horrid stomach pains, constipation, nausea, by the evenings I'm exhausted and feel really unwell. I'm just not bouncing back at all, the stomach pains and constipation are constant and really getting me down. Has anyone had this? Normally it's over in 24 hours but feel better shortly after too.. but this time despite the D&V stopping I'm just not feeling any better. Lying in bed now feeling shaky, sick, horrid stomach pains and backed up. Sad

Have you seen your GP? That sounds horrible, you should get onto your doctor first thing tomorrow to do a stool sample and some blood tests. Definitely not normal for a bug to last so long!

Hope you feel better soon.

Are you sure it was noro and not food poisoning? You may need antibiotics. My daughter had E. Coli caught on a lovely (not) all inclusive holiday and was ill for ages until she started her antibiotics

Mines was the opposite, OP. I had a really bad case of food poisoning and had diorreah for 8 weeks. Was awful. Thankfully it subsided. The GP was worried I had developed IBS.

Definitely speak to your gp. X

it is possible to develop IBS after noro or another GI infection. It’s called post infectious IBS. If I ever get a GI infection it triggers my IBS and takes weeks/ months to get back to normal and can be totally miserable. Agree that you should talk to your GP and maybe get stool sample and blood tests. I do sympathise - it is horrible. Hope you feel better soon

Yackult or some probiotic might help. A gastroenterologist told me once that they were worth taking if your stomach was upset. Or you might need an antibiotic.
