North Carolina developer - says houses are only for those who'll fly the Stars and Stripes all year round

In years gone past, I'd quietly chuckle to myself (do people chuckle anymore ?). But in more recent times, this seems to be an early warning for "coming soon to the UK".

Which does mean there is a flutter to be had on what borough, county or city will be first.

Sweepstakes ?

North Carolina developer sells land to 'patriots' who will fly US flag

A property developer in North Carolina is selling homes in a new community for people over the age of 55, but with a unique condition - that they must fly the American flag.

Also only for the over 55s.
Was this Fankhauser's choice or one of the conditions of getting permission to build here ?

$450, 000 each house Shock

I think it’s a good idea - corral the nut jobs into one place, make them publicly declare their extreme right wing views and keep them well away from the rest of us.

I hadn't thought of that. Definitely a nuanced debate then ...

I like this idea.
It's still quite rare to see any form of UK flag on houses over here (unless it's World Cup time 🙄) compared to Canada and the US.

Would that be legally enforceable? Not sure what the laws are there, but it seems problematic from a freedom of belief/expression point of view.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 09/07/2023 17:58

It’s an excellent idea!

Once they’re in situ, build a high wall around and, ta-DA! We’re done!

I like the idea of self identification for the bigots. Helps yo avoid them. I wonder who will deliver their food, help them with care etc given the demographics of the NC youth

Not sure if the recent SCOTUS reappraisal of the 1st has any bearing here ....

I beluga it’s quite common in the US for developments to have very restrictive conditions about what you can and can’t do- how high your fences are, not being allowed to dry washing outside, that kind of thing. Much more accepted there than it would be here, and I don’t think that will change.

It's funny to me that these supposed libertarians who rail against government interference in their lives are happy to be dictated to re. flags and whether or not they can dry their knickers outdoors.

Why - it's almost like they are thick hypocrites !
