When's best to book a package holiday?

Hiya!

I'm looking for July/August 2024

I can pay in full, or pay it off - it makes little difference - but are these packages generally more expensive a year out to ensure they get the most from people who need to pay it off?

Do they drop closer to the time?

I normally book flights with Ryanair and source my own hotel, transport etc. but we want one of those all inclusive resorts due to having oodles of small children who will now really benefit from the kids clubs, slides etc.

Your help would be most welcome Grin

Also - thinking Jet2 or TUI

I don't know when but look out for free child places being released by both those companies 😊

We found them cheapest late December early January then from mud January started going up. I know this because my dick of a manager messed around with my leave request and refused to actually agree it until finally we had a team meeting to discuss summer leave in bloody May (by which time the holidays I was looking at had gone up by £3k and were out of our budget). I became slightly obsessed with the Tui app over that period.

@TeenLifeMum Shock I can imagine you were seriously unimpressed, that's shocking

I can get a week AI for £4.5k now

I know it won't drop by much..but given it's a lot of money, I'll be raging if it even goes down by £50

I'm not a fan of busy AI mad children holidays; however, needs must - DH and I have worked ourselves into the ground over the last while and we want something that really benefits the children

My head is already sore at the prospect Grin

@alanrickmanshamster where are you going and how many/ages of dc?

HushHushDarling · 09/07/2023 21:51

We've just booked a week away in the canneries with TUI. Lovely hotel 4 star, adult only.

We only have breakfast as we like to eat out but it's a gorgeous hotel just over £1200 for us both, mid June 2024.

Try and avoid summer hols and you'll get a better deal.

alanrickmanshamster · 09/07/2023 23:56

We have to go summer hols as eldest child is at school

Happy to go to Turkey, Greece, Spain

Found a safari type lodge in Benidorm (I know..) and a spa like water park in Antalya

I don't mind spending the money, I'm just wondering when is best to book

In my experience you’re best booking either about 8-9 months before or within 6 weeks of departure.
