Sanitary pads without wings

I am trying to find some disposable sanitary pads without wings for my 12yo DD. She is going on a residential dance course so can't use period pants or anything reusable and the wings of sanitary pads can show under leotards. I really like the Flo bamboo pads but they all have wings. Any suggestions? I don't really like Always as they're so plasticky.

Always Ultra normal

I use the bodyform pads without wings, wouldn't buy anything else!

Bodyform do pads without wings. I can only seem to find them in Home Bargains though! Why are pads without wings getting harder and harder to find?

Is there a reason she can't use tampons?
We were all told to use tampons in competition when we were young.

Have you thought about getting her some medication to postpone her period as a last resort if this is a one off?

Wouldn't that make the stuffing come out if the sides and make them likely to leak?

No, you just cut the wing part. The stuffing doesn't go all the way into the wings.

If her periods are regular and she knows when it's coming I would get her the medication to delay her period to put her mind at ease.

TenThousandSpoons · 09/07/2023 16:05

Another vote for Bodyform - unscented and unplasticky

greysockmissing · 09/07/2023 19:08

How long is she away for. If only 3 nights or less I'd just buy a waterproof sealable bag and store period pants to wash when she gets home.
Lots of choice out designed for this. For example...

The OP's daughter is only 12. Personally I didn't want to entertain the idea of tampons at 12, but regardless of age it's all down to personal preference, which we're all entitled to!

No good for heavy periods. I always have to double up with pads and can leak through a super plus tampon in 20 minutes. Periods were heavier when they first started too!

I know its so frustrating I hate wings. They rub me and make me sore.

gogomoto · 10/07/2023 21:03

Asda have own brand ones without wings, very cheap too

She can't wear period pants as the laundry service won't wash them and no facilities to do her own.

She only needs a sink… she can wash them properly when she gets home.

Middlelanehogger · 10/07/2023 21:06

Curious about why people think there is an age limit on tampons?

There isn't but they're very fiddly and painful for young girls. I couldn't use them until late teens. Plus they can be dangerous if left in for an extended time.

dementedpixie · 10/07/2023 21:30

I used tampons from fairly early on and I started my periods age 11. I didn't find them painful at all. They should be changed every few hours and not left in for more than 8 hours at a time

hookpan · 10/07/2023 21:33

Bodyform are not plasticky. They're soft and don't have that rustling noise that always pads have

milkydress · 10/07/2023 21:52

Aldi do great ones! 49p!

HappiDaze · 11/07/2023 03:31

This is exactly the sort of reason and time they start using tampons. I'd pack some with an applicator just in case she decides she wants to try them. Especially once she finds out most of the other girls will be using tampons.

Remind her to wrap them in toilet paper and to put them in the bin and never ever down the toilet. She's 12 not 8 so perfectly capable of using a tampon

hellswelshy · 11/07/2023 07:45

The green Always packs are wingless, we don't like them here either so buy lots for me & dds. Every supermarket seems to do their own wingless ones though, bought some in Sainsburys yesterday in fact!

fetchacloth · 11/07/2023 07:53

Bodyform your best bet.
The adhesive is very strong also.
