Sanitary pads without wings

Cacaocookie · 09/07/2023 14:07

I am trying to find some disposable sanitary pads without wings for my 12yo DD. She is going on a residential dance course so can't use period pants or anything reusable and the wings of sanitary pads can show under leotards. I really like the Flo bamboo pads but they all have wings. Any suggestions? I don't really like Always as they're so plasticky.

You can cut the wings off!

Bodyform do pads without wings.

bibbityboppityboo · 09/07/2023 14:12

Could she wear two pairs of underwear, one with a pad with wings on for security, then another pair over so the wings don't show through the leotard? If not Always do ones without wings - I've seen them in boots / Tesco when grabbing my own.

Have you tried the pink packs of Always? Much softer, and they don't have the plastic feel. Best of all, they're always about 95p from asda.

I'm wondering how long the residential is and whether it might actually be an option to use period pants. I've used them on long weekends camping and just made sure to bag them (airtight!). Absolutely revolting getting them out to wash once back home, I admit. But they came up clean.
Just thinking what with dancing they might be the most comfortable option.

Failing that, I've found Wilkinson's basic/essential ones (forget the name of their budget line) to be not too plasticy and I think they have some without wings. Or perhaps if it is an option it might be time to try tampons.

hopeishere · 09/07/2023 14:18

Kotex but they are a bit more bulky which she might not like.

Boots do some as well.

I hate wings!!

Wouldn't that make the stuffing come out if the sides and make them likely to leak?

She doesn't even like wearing one pair of pants as it "spoils the line" of the leotard so no way could I get to wear two pairs! But thanks for the thought.

Just a question.

Why can't she wear period pants underneath?

Swimmers swear them under costumes and they have been a game changer for the teen girls at ds club and as an ex dancer I'd have loved something like this to have been available.

Dodie66 · 09/07/2023 14:23

Tesco do their own brand free spirit and they are cheap too

Cacaocookie · 09/07/2023 14:23

She can't wear period pants as the laundry service won't wash them and no facilities to do her own.

Are they soft and non-plasticky?

Fold the wings under and use as normal.

Some of the smaller flow size bodyform ones are without wings.

SoSadForCav · 09/07/2023 14:31

I think as a dancer, she's going to need to get comfortable with using tampons. They make really petite ones now (weirdly non applicator are easier to use).

but there are plenty without wings. No idea which are soft/non plasticky though.

poor kid though, typical timing 🙄🙄

Dodie66 · 09/07/2023 14:32

Yes they are non plasticky and soft. My daughter uses them. These are the daytime ones they have a soft cotton feel top sheet https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/301179184 50p for 16
they also do nighttime ones and pant liners

CatchCatchThePigeon · 09/07/2023 14:41

I use the Bodyform ones without wings. They are soft. I am ludicrously hypersensitive to things and I can manage these ones

Bennyjoon · 09/07/2023 14:45

Aldi ones are ok. I really rate their tampons (with applicators) too.

She can't wear period pants as the laundry service won't wash them and no facilities to do her own.

She could put pairs into sealed plastic bags during the day and then rinse in the shower in the evenings.

She could also wash in shower with hand washing powder and leave to dry in room or put back into bags.

The wings are usually only the backing layer and not part of the integrity of the pad IME. But the only pads I've used in recent years have been always infinity so maybe it's different for others.

msbossy · 09/07/2023 15:12

Naty, natracare and TOTM are all good options if you want cotton. I think Naty have ones without wings.

dementedpixie · 09/07/2023 15:15

Bodyform definitely has versions without wings as I buy them for me. They are also unscented unlike most Always pads

Cacaocookie · 09/07/2023 15:18

Thank you, lots of options to try.

I was going to say bodyform too. Much less plasticky than always and unfragranced! I hate the smell of fragranced ones 🤢

han01uk · 09/07/2023 15:24

I bought some in Boots this week.

han01uk · 09/07/2023 15:24

As in Boots own brand (sorry otherwise that wasn't helpful at all!)
