How often do you actually switch off your phone?

Not put it on silent or airplane mode, but actually switch the thing off so it’s blank and useless?

I’ve realised I’ve only done it once or twice in the last decade. But when the battery runs down and I don’t get round to charging it for a few hours, I feel quite liberated.

So, I’m going to switch my phone off later today. Until Monday morning. When the work messages, voicemails, emails, frenzied end of year 6 WhatsApp group and a thousand apps can all have me back. The teens armed both home, everyone important has DH’s number. So I’m going incommunicado. Just as soon as I’ve worked out where the off switch is!

I virtually don't really use a mobile phone. However the adult children use whatsapp so I do look at it a few times a day for that. About once a month I will make a telephone call on it. I use a landline for work and home calls and I use my computer at my desk in my home office for websites and emails. I do have to use my mobile when making online payments as it is the security authentication. So in my own case I don't often switch it completely off but I may just look at it say once a day and don't use it except for those very few things.

On the other hand I am online dealing with clietns' emails from dawn to dusk and wasting time on the internet on my personal computer so I am hardly some kind of never online saint person...

The only time it turns off is if it runs out of battery (very rare) or is restarting due to an update.

I do have it on silent in the evenings and overnight, though.

Never, only when it dies.

Only if it isn't running properly so I turn it off to reboot it. I leave it downstairs at night though - unless DS has gone out drinking! Family and close friends know they could get me on our landline at night in an emergency.

I very rarely turn mine off. But I generally only look at it during office hours (in case DC or school needs to contact me) and it spends most weekends in my work bag. It's always on silent.

People know to ring the landline (which is audible and has 4 potential people to answer it) if important/urgent.
