What films do you watch when you want to leave your brain at the door?

Sometimes I just want to watch nonsense and for me, you can't beat a good old disaster movie. If I'm feeling a bit fed up (like I am today, thanks covid) give me The Towering Inferno or The Poseidon Adventure and I'm happy as a clam. Watched 2012 this afternoon. Man, that was utter shite and I feel I may have to trawl Netflix shortly for something else.

What are your preferences for 'no think watching' as my DS calls it?

Another vote for the carry on films, no need to use brain at all! Ooooh matron!

Bridesmaids. So good. Anything with Melissa McCarthy.

John Hughes films.

James Bond.

’70s disaster movies.

CountingMareep · 09/07/2023 00:01

Classic singalong musicals, not the recent rubbishy dancey ones - My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, The King & I, West Side Story. Also partial to Lloyd Webber ones especially Phantom.

OhcantthInkofaname · 09/07/2023 00:02

I go back to child raising days and watch the early Disney movies. I watch the original Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, Pete's Dragon and similar.

OhcantthInkofaname · 09/07/2023 00:06

Add on: When I want a good cry I go for Steel Magnolias.

50s scifi
Mindless action- the kind of videos that ripped off the Arnie/Stallone/VanDamme movies back in the Blockbuster days
Speed

I only watch films that allow me to leave my brain at the door. I do not want to have to think. Most films have been mentioned already - the earlier James Bond films, Serendipity, Jurassic Park, Disney, Titanic, Harry Potter, Leap Year 😳😂.

DrFoxtrot · 09/07/2023 00:55

Also Ghost and Pretty Woman.

Embarrassed to say, ' Carry On ' films.

I know they're dated and stereotypical but they make me giggle and I don't have to think about my woes.

Oh I agree with you - I love carry on films. I've also watched the two Inbetweeners films many many times. I never get bored of them.

Growlybear83 · 09/07/2023 02:06

And Norman Wisdom films 😆

LordSalem · 09/07/2023 02:09

The Hostel series, Terrifier films, the Saw series. Familiar for comfort but don't need brain engagement.

HomeSeck · 09/07/2023 02:33

Cheesy action comedies for me:

Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle
Red Notice
The Hitman's Bodyguard
The Lost City
etc.

No thinking required!
