Men's swimwear in Yelloh campsites

Hi, we are booked with a Yelloh campsite in France for the first time, very excited! Have seen that men are supposed to wear proper swimming trunks/shorts - DH currently has some 'board short' type things so I guess we'll need to buy new ones - do they care about this or will we be wasting our money buying new ones?

When I look online you can get tight ones, or ones that are more traditional like slimmer fitting, shorter shorts (but not skintight) - do you think those would be ok?

We went years ago and they were quite strict (this could have changed) so DH had to basically buy and wear a pair of tiny, tight Speedos for the whole holiday, much to my amusement.

CindersAgain · 07/07/2023 09:53

Strict in our experience. Skin tight but longer legs are ok. Anything flappy isn’t.

Good to know, thanks! Look forward to recommending him a HYPER BOOM SPLICE

Better to buy some than risk only have tiny speedos available like @Delatron 's husband 🤣 Unless he doesn't mind a pair of speedos of course.

If he wants longer length tight shorts, search for "jammers" . It's been a few years since I was in France but they wouldn't allow slim-fit back then, it had to be skin tight.

Munchyseeds2 · 07/07/2023 10:03

DH reluctantly wears the speedo type but takes a pair of his baggy trunks that he wears over the top when not in the water

shockthemonkey · 07/07/2023 10:04

They will be strict! Budgie smugglers is what you’ll need to get. Maybe PPs are right that you can go for longer as long as they are very tight so nothing untoward can escape.

AmandaHoldensLips · 07/07/2023 10:06

I'm really curious to know why this is?

AlphaAlpha · 07/07/2023 10:08

It’s actually part of French law

I got some trunks from sports direct or decathlon, not the "pants" style ones, they had a bit of leg to them like boxers. They were fine.

Lifeguard was telling off those who tried to get into the water with board shorts on!

DistantConstellation · 07/07/2023 10:09

oh and does this apply to primary-age boys as well?

Something to do with their levels of chlorination, if board/baggy shorts are worn they tend to be worn elsewhere, picking up dirt/particles that won't be broken down effectively with their levels of chlorinating a pool.

Yes, it applies to all who enter a pool.

itsmylife7 · 07/07/2023 10:12

you learn something new every day 😂

TheMousePipes · 07/07/2023 10:14

My husband is currently sulking about this - we’re going on Sunday. Dd pointed out that women basically have to wear skin tight revealing swimwear all the time so he should put up and shut up. I snurked quietly to myself in the kitchen.

SussexSeaGal · 07/07/2023 10:16

Everyone just wears Speedos or tight shorts under their board shorts and then whips them off before entering the pool. You will get told off by the lifeguards if you don't comply.

We've been to quite a few Yelloh sites and they are great for families - though my favourite campsite is a non Yelloh one which is in Hourtin.

😂 Tis a sight I’ll never forget. Tiny bright blue Speedos…

Mrwhoeveriam · 07/07/2023 11:00

It's been 'Speedos' only in France for years. They haven't just brought it in to annoy the Brits. Hope the men look better than Tony Blair did on one of his holidays.

Where do women 'have to' do this? Women can wear what they like, unless it's the rule of the venue.

There's a huge range of women's swimwear on sale, or just wear shorts and vest/t-shirt.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 07/07/2023 11:44

I’ve never really understood why men want to wear yards of baggy material to swim in anyway. Board shorts must be dragging behind them the whole time.

DistantConstellation · 22/08/2023 07:45

Just to update, we went and no-one cared about baggy shorts, loads of men were wearing board shorts so probably worth checking if you need to know!
My eldest got some jammers anyway which he likes and DH had already bought some based on this thread...
