What online app/tool do you use as a shared family calendar that sends reminder prompts to everyone?

Just that really, an online version of the calendar on the wall but it can send reminders of upcoming appointments etc?
TIA

We just use the Apple calendar. We have shared and separate ones.

FancyShmanci · 07/07/2023 00:25

But does the apple calendar work if some are on android?

We just Cozi and love it!

Sometimesgood · 07/07/2023 00:45

ICal but you have to either pay one-off or monthly subscription

Is that a free app?

Google calendar. You have choose if it goes in the family calendar or just your calendar, if you want notifications and when you want them.

MrsElsa · 07/07/2023 01:52

Google calendar. You can set up multiple calendars and just tick or untick the ones you want to see eg. 1 per person and 1 joint if you're triyng to manage teens.

I set a calendar up to show dc friend custody arrangements i.e. when are they free for playdates!

recurring events can be a lifesaver. Location, kit list all recurring.

Use the desktop site to set it all up. Then add things on phone. Events and tasks. (Integrates with google task list, again can set up multiple lists for projects or people).

We use one called Family Wall. We don't pay for any extras, we all have the colour coded calendars and use the day before reminders and others.

I like to take a photo of the party invitations in the app when I add the events. You can also add the location which makes it handy when you're running late, need to buy a gift and have never been to the kid's house before !

I looked at cozi before but thought I needed to subscribe. Might take another look as inquire liked it too.

SeanMean · 07/07/2023 05:48

I also use Cozi and love it!

KneeInfinite575 · 07/07/2023 05:51

Cozi is great. Then there is Microsoft outlook calendar, google calendar.

LutherRalph1 · 07/07/2023 06:18

TimeTree

SpanglySpaniels · 07/07/2023 06:42

We use Cozi. Pay a yearly subscription.

doradoo · 07/07/2023 06:52

We also use cozi, but just the free version, works well!

FancyShmanci · 07/07/2023 08:05

Can I assume if you use Google calendar that everyone has a Gmail account. Unfortunately that's not the case here.

We use Cozi just the free version it's great have a little summary widget on my phone screen. Send reminders to everyone (if event set up as everybody) or can be individual events too. Can be bit clunky to scroll through to dates etc and some features only work if pay but we've used it for few years now and not felt need to upgrade to paid version.

Wow that is super intrusive!

Bit like when my mother in law got her partner to look up my husband's shifts (same employer) and stuck it on their fridge.

Major boundaries crossed!

Zebrasinpyjamas · 07/07/2023 08:15

We used cozi too. There is a free and paid version. I pay but mostly to support the app as I've used it for years. The free one was great and had most of the paid functionality. (The main difference for us was the paid one allows multiple reminders for one event).

Different profiles for each person, reminders , sends a weekly summary of plans etc. It's not restricted to apple Vs android as far as I know

Why is it intrusive? One friend can see when the other friend is at his mums so knows when he’ll be available to meet up with?

Not everyone wants that level of monitoring of their lives. The ability and need for privacy is high up on the list of importance for some. Me included.

Google calendar; I add my work account (MSoft) all the time, so I know that they don't need gmail addresses to use it. MSoft auto adds the events to outlook calendar for me. Reverse works fine, too (event invites sent from MSoft appear in GCalendar and my apple calendar since I use a Mac).

My gripe is that GC & MS both assume any 'invites' are for TEAMS or Google meet. No.... I'm just trying to duplicate events so that I see them in both / either calendar. Constant editing to remove telecon inserts.

Just thinking my gym app let's us add calendar invites, too, so those I send to all calendar email addies too (no telecon assumption on them, thank goodness).

That you can't overlap Outlook calendars from different work accounts is hugely annoying. Lots invites sent back and forth between my work accounts.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 07/07/2023 10:12

Another vote for cozi, we have the paid version but the free version is fine. We have my parents and sister on there as well so everyone can see who needs to be transporting the children to their various activities each day!

jackstini · 07/07/2023 10:49

TimeTree here - free app and I can copy and paste/link to my iPhone calendar so everything automatically updates across

BringOnSummerHolidays · 07/07/2023 13:13

Apple calendar because we all have iPhones. But Google calendar works the same.

We just use a family WhatsApp group and 3 days before a birthday I tend to remind people in a subtle way. 'X are you planning anything nice for your birthday on Saturday'? Others see it and have time to fire a card off.
