Transvaginal scan

I’ve just been to the doctors for painful sex and she’s referred me for a transvaginal scan and I’ll receive the appointment in the post.
does anyone know how long it typically takes to receive the letter? And how long the wait is to have the actual scan?
thank you!

I had one once and I had it done within 2-3 weeks of the result of some blood tests I had. It wasn’t urgent. This was some years ago now though.

I've had several - the wait time differed a little between hospitals/trusts. Essentially the wait was 4-6 weeks each time from them having received the referral with the exception of an urgent scan which was within 2 weeks but that was pre-covid so I would expect to perhaps wait a little longer now knowing that things are potentially quite strained.

The referral from the GP should reach the dept within 2 weeks (1 week if urgent) and then most likely you will receive a call to book the appointment. I am at the hospital fairly often these days and rarely if ever do I just get a letter out of the blue with an appointment. More often than not they will call first to book you in and then send a letter confirming what has been agreed for your records.

You can always call the booking team or the department and ask how long the wait is or to check you are on the waiting list. If you're given the option to book online then it will tell you the expected waiting time when you do this for whichever hospital you choose.

Scans aren't taking that long at the minute. It's the follow up appointments you have to wait for.
