unless you opt back in for paper ones.

I get why ect. but - and sorry i'm being very thick here - how do you use a voucher you've received by email if you don't shop online?

TIA 🙂

I think they want you to use their app - your clubcard and all your vouchers are stored on it and you just scan it at the till

Laiste · 06/07/2023 22:13

Ah ok - thank you - so you show the till the app on your phone instead of waving your club card at it?

And it puts your points on there from the shop you just did and takes money off if you've got any vouchers?

I use my paper ones for rewards rather than money off the shopping. Eurotunnel mostly, or hotels. Not sure how that will work.

Currently:

The app will show you what coupons or vouchers you have.

Vouchers: you open it in the app and it has one of those square, black QR codes that the cashier will scan.

Coupons: in the app you must manually 'add' this offer to your clubcard, or to your online shopping basket. Once added to clubcard, you just scan your physical card/fob as usual in store. You can also open the coupon in the app and view its barcode for the cashier to scan off your phone. If you do not do any of this, the coupon will expire without being used, it's not automatically on your account.

At least they're showing people to opt back in for paper vouchers. So many companies are moving to app based out card based payments etc which excludes some people.

I used the public loos in a nearby town today. They've recently opened a new loo block and closed the old ones. You now have to pay 50p to use the loos (which is a whole other debate) but you can only pay by contactless card. No cash, no chip & pin, no other option. This will exclude people who don't/won't have a contactless card. My elderly FIL for example won't use contactless, doesn't trust it. Some car parks are moving to app based payments only, which excludes anyone without a smart phone (FIL again). I'm all for new technology but not when it excludes some (often vulnerable) people.

The app makes it simple to swap your voucher balance for partner vouchers: it's all within the Clubcard section of app, then they'll email you when it's been changed (usually within minutes) and your Eurotunnel gift voucher will be in your Rewards section to redeem either via usual website or over phone.

Just always read the comments, in case there's a loophole/issue.
We swapped for National Express this year, but I had read comments complaining the NE site only takes one code per booking, and the app had given them multiple smaller vouchers eg £10s instead of one big one... So I actually rang Tesco and got the advisor to swap my points for one big National Express voucher code.

PS. Swear I don't work on the clubcard team, I just like swapping the points lol.

How do you opt back in for paper vouchers, does anyone know? I’ve been on the website a few times and I just can’t see the option to do it.

I haven’t had paper vouchers for years, but if I want to use them in store, I just go into the website and print them off - I don’t do all the apps business on my phone because I’m a dinosaur, and just don’t want that level of personal and financial info on a device I can so easily lose or have stolen.

I think I got an email a few months back saying they were moving to coupons on-line only and there was a link in that email to opt into keeping paper ones. I opted in.

Twothousandandjustonemore · 30/07/2023 15:44

Hmmm. No email for either of us, I also have their CC that earns points on it elsewhere so I should have had something.

Contactless card to use the bogs? Jesus wept, no doubt the council try to sell the idea by encouraging people to download the MyShit app, with a snazzy "My Toilet, My Choice, My Shit" leaflet included in with the annual council tax hike letter.

Or they could just programme their toilets to accept 50p in coins, but that would make too much sense and we can't be having that.

I know, it's infuriating. I had to traipse back to the car twice. Saw the sign saying 50p so went back to the car and came back with 50p. No go. Back to the car again to get my purse, then had to try two different cards before I could get it to work. Good job I wasn't desperate. And there's not even a proper sink, it's one of those weird things where you put your hands in a hole in the wall. It dispenses some soap, then a bit of water (not enough), then a waft of barely warm air.

Coming soon to a town near you, mark my words.

i had to print my own vouchers, they emailed to say i had some about to expire, so that pleased me
i cannot have the app due to not having an iphone.

Iliketulips · 30/07/2023 19:05

I don't know anything about this. Does anyone know roughly when they notified of the change, as can't find anything on a search of my emails.
