easyJet flight cancellation help

Not sure where to post this, so I went with Chat for traffic.

I've just been notified that my easyJet flight to the UK has been cancelled (I live abroad). It's in just over two weeks time so they've said I can change flights free of charge (VERY generous considering they've clearly cancelled this flight simply because it was undersold).

My problem is it was an early flight to get to an event (relative's 90th birthday), and there is nothing else to that airport or anywhere close by that gets me there in time for the event. All the available flights on any airline are now in the evening. So I will have to fly the day before and stay in a hotel. All a pain in the arse and loads of extra expense.

My question is, easyJet's T&Cs / notice of rights indicates that I can claim expenses back due to cancellation, but the examples they give only talk about hotels etc. to get replacement flights the day after, not the day before. Does anyone know if I will be successful in claiming back the additional expenses?

Hope this makes sense!

Veteran of Easyjet cancellation claims here

I doubt it tbh because their commitment is to get you from a to b. Presumably it’s your outbound flight. If you had to delay your flight home by a day however I think you could legitimately try and make a claim. Good luck either way.

argh it's a bloody pain, there's no point in me going if I take any of the available flights that day, I'll miss the whole party.

The day before I'll have to pay extra for travel and hotel.

I'm only going for one day FFS. Argh! Bunch of dicks.

The exact same scenario happened to me last year. Flight was cancelled and we ended up travelling the night before.

You are entitled to compensation however, arriving the day before reduces the compensation by 50%.
Although the person I travelled with was on a separate booking reference to me and when we both submitted our claim, they were paid the full amount and I received only 50%! I think they got lucky with whoever approved their claim.

I also received a refund back for the extra nights hotel I had to book.

This is encouraging, thank you. Was this with easyJet? I've had to book the flight the day before, there's no other option at any airport, with any airline, that will get me to the event in time on the same day now. Everything is sold out.

Sorry, have just seen your reply.
Yes, my flight was with EasyJet also.
Did you submit your claim?
