I have an elderly friend who I visit monthly. She lives in a nice area but has just this week experienced an incident with the joined on neighbour, it seems it was a large cannabis farm which has now been shut down by the police.
To the best of my knowledge she had thought the boys next door were working away a lot and had no idea, no sounds/smells, etc.
What I am worried about now, since I have been over there is that the deconstruction of the cannabis house has released one heck of a stench into the street and my friend's property. She was told to open her windows and wait for it to pass. That's fair enough.
However, I managed to get a look into the house next door and it smelled heavily of damp/mould, too. There is suddenly a weird ammonia type of smell in her kitchen and we have no idea what that might be. The police have left the windows of the property all open, but we have no idea what will happen next.
Will my friend have been exposed to this mould through the walls? She has no symptoms but does get hayfever, so we just don't know. Is there anything she can do in the present moment to help - dehumidifier or something like that?
There is no visible mould in her home, but we are wondering if it could have got in somehow. You can sometimes slightly smell another neighbour smoking so am presuming wall are thin/old.
According to the police this was a professional outfit, had been running for 2 years and was excessive/large. They had obviously been managing the output well with fans and vents which were not evident to anyone locally.
