I'm 46, with night sweats, mad periods, bad mood, weird weight gain. What will the Dr learn from blood tests

Admittedly I have Google dxed myself with peri menopause, but my mums last period ever was aged 48 amd they were stuttering before that. Like mine are now! Why do I need blood tests - are they helpful. And what is the threshold of my suffering before I warrant intervention?

Mine looked at my age and symptoms and didn’t even do a blood test! Diagnosed peri menopause.

I went privately for acupuncture for a few years. It helped greatly.

Thought they were supposed to go on symptoms alone?

Well my friends also have been dx from symptoms alone. I am just wondering what the threshold is bc online it looks like because I am over 46 the assumption would be that I'm peri

The blood tests could be to rule other things out such as thyroid issue. Yes flags and symptoms indicate peri menopause but useful for the GP to make sure nothing else is wrong.

According to NICE guidelines they don't need blood tests to diagnose peri-menopause after 45. But I think that GPs do still sometimes to blood tests to confirm and to rule out other things which could also be going on which could be happening alongside peri symptoms - e.g. related to thyroid. So I think they do it to ensure they aren't missing something.
