Inspired by a thread about how people were happier in the 90s, how can I live more like we did in the 90s?
Obviously no Internet, I already don't use social media apart from mumsnet.
But what made the 90s so good that I could recreate for me and my children a bit more?

i Was 10 in 1990, so formative years for me. I used to get the bus with my mates from age 12 to the next town to go shopping or go for a McDonald’s when I was a bit older I would catch a train to a bigger town about 10 miles away to go ice skating. From listening to a friend of mine who has young teens, they don’t have that same sense of independence. Her kids have to get public transport to school but their friends who live walking distance and don’t regularly use public transport don’t know how to read the time table or how to get a ticket etc.

Are you kidding? Who was having all the happy times? In the 90s I bought a house and within 4 years was paying out 75% of my take home pay on my mortgage, worried sick that interest rates would go up again... 0.25% more would have meant repossession...

Rates are heading that way, so be careful what you wish for!

Age in the 90s was imperative. I was 6 - 16, so for me it was the pre-internet, pre-"play date" era. We 'called' for our friend's, hung out in the park. Made calls where the parent answered the house phone. We played out all day until dark with the kids from the area. We drank cider and had fun, no mobiles, you just new you had to be home.

Tv was live, as in you watched shows live and if you missed it that was it. You watched each episode weekly and each series yearly. Magazines were a big thing and such a treat! Takeaways were very rare! You lived more in the moment because technology just wasn't a thing in your life like now!

I was 14-24, I lived, loved, laughed and cried. I couldnt possibly recreate the 90s, for me it was the very best and what felt like at the time, the very worst!. I met DH in 2001 but we reminisce massively about the 90's, even though we lived 70 miles apart, we both lived the same lifestyle. Worked hard, played harder ... once we'd left school obviously 🤣

It was my 20s. I would have been living my best life regardless of the decade.

To recreate this, study a lot, drink a lot and do a lot of sport. Ignore the social norms of normal working hours, and live to a body clock that really only wakes up at 11am ish, but powers through to 2am easily. Couple of LTRs(ish), a few random shags, met DH at end of 1997. And gigs. Many gigs.

I was 15-25. Incredible years. Spike island, hacienda, house parties in high rise flats, being young and foolish without cameras or consequence. Moved back from London and got a 2 bed council flag 3 weeks after applying for one.

I was a teenager in the 90s and I hated being a teenager so I would never want to go back there. I do remember talking to older men on dial up internet chat rooms. That was exciting but looking back quite dodgy. So glad social media wasn't around.

For me I was 16-26 in the nighties.

Raves, parties, Es, music. Friends , lots of blokes, just so much fun!

I'd go back in shot.
