Can you still apply for a job that’s ‘no longer accepting applications?’

If it’s just a CV and cover letter one where you email it to a named person, and the deadline was only a couple of days ago, then yes, I’d go for it. I’ve done it in the past, and just added an email saying I’ve only just seen the advert and I hope you don’t mind etc. I got a positive response although I didn’t get the job in the end.

You can. Just don’t expect a response.

I got a positive response when I did it. It’s only public sector or large companies that are going to give an automatic no.

I don’t really understand why you feel the need to make that point. I said ‘don’t expect a reply.’ That means the OP shouldn’t expect a reply BUT they may well get one. I am very pleased to hear you did get a positive response. But your experience doesn’t provide the rule. Some employers will respond even if to say thanks but no thanks. Others won’t bother.
the point I am making is…apply. You have nothing to lose.

GayPareeee · 05/07/2023 18:28

We use an online application system and you couldn’t physically apply past the deadline

Rocknrollstar · 08/07/2023 08:58

I saw a job advert on the day the applications were supposed to close. I rang up and told them I was keen and we discussed my background. They told me to apply and I was offered the job. Go for it!

LivinDaylights · 08/07/2023 09:15

Depends on the job/sector, like other's said public sector and some large companies have online application systems and you simply can't apply after the job closes. Smaller companies you can approach directly or where they still accept cv and cover letter you could try. I'd probably ring them and ask, it's easier than wasting time tailoring your CV etc when they potentially won't even look at it.

CuriouslyDifferent · 08/07/2023 09:17

Try, nothing to lose.

Just be wary of recruitment agencies providing your details as well you. Many companies operate a two in the bin, process, as they won’t want to get into an agency fight over fees.

chohiad · 08/07/2023 09:17

I think it might be like the ITV competition line warning; "please do not apply after the cut off, if you do, your time may be wasted"

HermioneWeasley · 08/07/2023 09:17

What do you mean “can you”? It’s not illegal, but you might be ignored.

Zonder · 08/07/2023 09:18

I would call them first and ask.

No it's not, I've worked in the voluntary sector for almost 25 years with various small charities and we've never accepted a job application after the closing date.

Exactly the same thing happened to me. Do ring up of you can rather than just send the cv/letter. It would definitely go in the bin otherwise.

In my case the interviews had started, so they added me onto the end of the list and I got the job!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/07/2023 09:34

Our online job portal stops accepting applications after the cut off time/date.

MynameMyname · 08/07/2023 10:04

If the job comes up again and it says previous applicants please do not reply . Reply . They do not know who has and who hasn't
