DH wants to retrain as a Financial Advisor - is this a good idea?

DH was in a highly paid corporate director job which he has hated for the last 2 years. There was a restructure he didn't like the look of so he decided to take the money. I am relieved and am glad he is taking some time out.

He's applying for other jobs but also mulling over retraining to be a financial advisor.

I think he would be great at doing the actual job (he's clever, finds this kind of thing easy) but worried about:

  • How long will it take to build up a business?
  • If he buys a business, the financial risk for us?
  • If he will be good at the actual selling himself part of the job - he is more of a geek than a schmoozer

Has anyone else been in this position before? - retraining - how did it turn out for you?

Any advice gratefully received. I do want to support him

A couple of mid-senior level folks from my last corporate employer seem to be going this route, Octopus is the brand. The linkedin posts are getting tedious and it all sounds a bit like a pyramid selling / a franchise scam! Perhaps they are just really keen......
I've not looked into it personally, so much financial information is available online I don't see the market being very big for it.
