Any recommendations for a cordless vacuum cleaner?

SpanglySpaniels · 04/07/2023 19:51

I feel like the world’s most boring woman even asking that question. But I’m sick of dragging our clunky old Henry about.

We need a cordless vacuum that can:

Pick up swathes of Labrador and cat hair
Be used by reluctant, clumsy teens.
Be easily carried about.
Not scare our lovely cleaner with its space age complexity.
Work on hard floors, carpets, sofas, cobwebby Tudor beams and (in desperation) behind disgusting teen beds.

Any recommendations welcome (and I’m secretly excited to get a new hoover!)

I have a Shark and it's great. I also have a corded Sebo which languishes under the stairs

itsapalaver · 04/07/2023 19:57

I hate my shark, it's shite.

However, I'm staying in a holiday let and there's a Bosch cordless here that seems very good (only used once tho)

SpanglySpaniels · 04/07/2023 20:00

Oh no! Controversial split opinions already. Dyson is so expensive but perhaps it’s the way forward?

Miele - superb - although ££££s

SpanglySpaniels · 04/07/2023 20:01

Oh god, the only Miele items in in our house was there when we moved in. All ancient and still working great.

Well, yes, if you divide as cost per use they’re probably very cost effective, if you’ve got the money upfront they are worth it tbh.

BungleandGeorge · 04/07/2023 20:04

I don’t think cordless are powerful enough for what you need. I went back to a corded

badluckorbadvibes · 04/07/2023 20:04

I have a Henry quick. I love it. It's a bit heavier than the dyson it replaced but it's worth it for the efficiency. I don't have a dog though, so can't vouch for it with pets.

Tryingtokeepcalmandcarryon · 04/07/2023 20:18

We’ve had a cordless Dyson, Shark and Vax, the Dyson and Vax are really good but the Shark was shocking after about a year and kept getting clogged, no suction at all.
if you have carpets and pets I think you need a corded and cordless. Our corded Shark is amazing, lasts years and has twice the suction power of any cordless. But we get it out once a week for a thorough hoover or for the car etc. the cordless is used daily for hard floors, kitchen, hallway etc and gets under areas such as the table that the corded can’t as very bulky

Tryingtokeepcalmandcarryon · 04/07/2023 20:20

(For price of a new model cordless Dyson you could get a corded Shark and a cordless Vax or similar)

Another vote for the Bosch...very powerful

SpanglySpaniels · 04/07/2023 20:40

I’m very tempted by the Bosch. Good reviews and not too expensive.

Dyson is crap, go for bosch

hettiethehare · 04/07/2023 20:43

We have a cordless Dyson that I bought in a burst of enthusiasm when we bought a house on 3 floors as I was sick of lugging our Miele up and down the stairs.

It is great for a quick nip round, but I'm glad we didn't get rid of our Miele as that is much better for a really thorough hoover round.

tillyandmilly · 04/07/2023 20:45

GTech - got one for my birthday - its brilliant

ThatFraggle · 04/07/2023 20:52

Which model of Bosch are you recommended

thenewera · 04/07/2023 21:03

Samsung- much better than the Dyson

foodtoorder · 04/07/2023 21:12

How about a Henry quick?

CC4712 · 04/07/2023 21:31

I'm watching this thread with interest as need a handheld too. I can't recommend a brand I'm afraid, but if you do get a Miele you get 20% if you have blue light card.

SpanglySpaniels · 07/07/2023 15:30

I’ve ordered this from John Lewis and it should arrive tomorrow. I’ve been studiously neglecting the moulting dog fur and cobwebs all over my house in preparation for a satisfying mammoth clean up.
I will report back!

Haha enjoy! Works perfect for cat fur!

Hi @SpanglySpaniels just came across this thread in my research on cordless vac...can I ask how are you finding the Bosch? We have 2 dogs and one of them in particular is a super shredder. I am losing the plot dragging out my corded vacuum every day. I really want a good cordless than I can run around downstairs (hard wood floors) every evening. Thank you!

kingkongs · 22/10/2023 17:11

@Carusa123 I used a Bosch cordless for labrador hair and it was great! Way better than my shark.

It’s okay- great for hair but we still get the Henry out for anything more substantial- after having to dislodge a couple of blockages! I would recommend for a daily clean up though.
