The junior doctors are going on strike again this month. I’ve done extra shifts each time on the ward to cover them and cancelled my clinics (I’m a consultant. This time it’s a weekend. My boss is trying to get me to do a night shift on a Sunday to cover them. I have young children and can’t do it but am being pressured into finding a way.
We’ve been expected every time to just step in and cover them, just like during covid where I had to step up to 40+ hours a week and nights with a toddler at home. Saying no has not been an option as they use the guilt over patient care.
I support the juniors but I am getting really fed up of this disruption to our normal work now.
