I'm a freelancer in a creative industry. Company I've worked with in the past - who I have a fantastic relationship with - asked me to pitch for job, where I'd be hired alongside three others for a project run by a client, starting next week.

Had my 'interview' yesterday with company (who know me already) and client (who I met for the first time). It went brilliantly - or so I thought. Ran over on time, really clicked with client, lots of laughter and chat. It was quietly suggested afterwards by the company that I'd be hired onto the project. I was the last of the interviews yesterday, and they told me they would be letting everyone know today.

I send a follow up by email - no reply. Since then it's been radio silence! Do you think if it were good news I would have heard by now?

I know NOTHING is a slam dunk, but I feel totally confused - I know the company want me on it, and the client seemed to really like me. 😞

Today has quite a while to go!

It's not even half 1 yet! They're probably having their lunch.

Just seems odd because they told me they were making their final decisions by the end of yesterday - if it was good news, surely they'd want to share that with me as quickly as possible? Particularly because one of them said to me 'really hope you're in with us next week...I'm sure you will be!'

Wouldn't they want to share it with me quickly if it was good news?!

There could be all sorts of reasons why they haven’t contacted you yet. They may not contact you today or even tomorrow even if it’s good news. I know you said the projects starting next week so you should hear from them sooner rather than later, but I once got a job a full week and a half after the day I was told I’d be contacted by if I was successful.

They are likely to have made a decision by the end of yesterday but are now getting through the processes they need to! So not necessarily a no. Give them time.

Thank you all. It just feels strange that it's 2pm already and STILL nothing. I've literally never felt more confident in the aftermath of an interview - and I'm a person who errs on the side of caution with such things! Ugh.

Totally agree with others that if they've said today they'll be thinking of by 5/6pm....

Having been on the other side, there are so many reasons for delay, none of which are to do with the candidate... Like you, I'm always surprised they often don't value doing it fast

I would suggest if you have heard nowt by 12.30 tomorrow, you give them a ring... but meanwhile find something distracting to do yourself (I know it's tough!!)...

If they've made their decision they may be letting others know who they've picked or making arrangements for their choice to start work ASAP or similar. Give it till 6, only just over 3 hours and then email again if you're desperate.
