Temp red light stuck

I am quite an anxious driver always stick to speed limits and rules ( I know everyone makes mistakes haha but I try too!) anyway
today when driving I was at a temporary set of traffic lights waiting. I had 3 cars infront of me and a queue was forming behind me. The other side of traffic coming our way came past 3 x and we were sat waiting for about 5 mins our light still stuck on red! So the car at the front went through and I was so hestistant to go through or not as like I said I hate doing things wrong!! But we were sat there a long time with them clearly not working!!
around 10 cars behind me also followed through behind me and when I went past the other sides lights were on red so it would have been our turn to go!
I will also add you could see the other side it wasn’t on a blind bend etc so was safe!

anyway anybody ever been in this situation before? Will I get in trouble??

No you won’t get in trouble.

Oh god - that’s terrifying. I learnt to drive late (mid 30s) and this has happened to me a couple of times. Once I was the person at the front so I had to make the call to go through the light 😮Didnt get in trouble either time.

On some sets of lights especially temporary ones they operate on a sensor, so if you don't pull up close enough they wont detect a vehicle and stay on red.

It does happen, and it's horrible being the car at the front when it is. Just follow the highway code and proceed with caution is all you can do really.
