Massive bruise from bite

Hi. Has anyone had a bruise come out like this from a bite? It's as big as my hand. It was itchy and I scratched it. I think the bruise is from the itching rather than the bite. I seem to bruise easier since menopause.. does anyone else? Thank you

I've just scratched bruises onto myself from a nasty bite. I'm rarely bitten at all but I was on grass the other day and found red ants crawling on me, I'm guessing it's them.

That doesn't look very good. Which part of your body is it, it's hard to tell from the photo.
Hopefully someone with useful advice will come along soon.

I react like this to Cleg bites (horseflies). Bastard things and bloody painful, tend to reduce and go down after about 5 or 6 days.

It's on my thigh. It's not painful or itchy now but was very itchy at the time

Yep. Every summer since childhood, I am covered in these. I don’t know what bites me, but I get a huge, red, very itchy raised lump and after a few days, they turn into a bruise.

I’ve got a few on the go at tje moment on my thighs.

Probably too late now, but if you tend to react this way you should take antihistamines as soon as you notice you have been bitten. If you think you are likely to be bitten, say if you are going to be sitting outdoors at night, don't even wait - take antihistamines beforehand.

I don't know if the bruising is the bite or where I have scratched it.. surely my skin shouldn't bruise like that from scratching?

Allergic reactions can cause bruising.

Yes, this has happened to me before and the bruising lasted probably about a week. I wouldn’t worry if that’s a one off. Happened about two summers ago, twice and never happened again weirdly enough. PP is right about taking antihistamines though.
