Question about bank accounts and your title, if you got married but didn’t change your surname

I got married several years ago but I didn’t change my surname. My bank cards still have the title “Miss” after all this time. I’m still Miss T Plates on everything, which I’ve been my whole life.

I’d actually like to be Ms, and I wondered how much faff this would be if I tried to change it with my bank? I’ve seen a few threads here where people have said that changing your name is a huge faff, and I wondered if changing my title would be the same amount of faff if it’s just my title but I’m keeping my same name?

I changed mine to Ms and I can't remember it being a huge faff. I would just give them a call or drop into your branch if there's one near you.

I wouldn't think it will be all that much of an issue for them. After all, you aren't actually changing your name, so they wouldn't have to check a marriage certificate or a deed poll or whatever, it is just your title.

Maybe ring them up and ask.

I can’t see how they could make it a faff even if they wanted to- no official document exists to “prove” whether you’re Ms or Miss.

I did this - no official document or anything required. I just started giving Ms as my title on anything new and when dealing with bank or utilities asked them to change my title it on their system.

Changing to Ms was easy, but they wouldn't change it to Dr without seeing my certificate. I'm still Ms.

You can change it to Ms without any hassle. Over the phone is fine.

Oh, it’s easy. Swapping titles isn’t changing your name. You can go back and forth weekly if you want to.
