The advertisers pay someone, so when you start most podcasts you get some ads added to the mpeg, plus the presenters may themselves promote some good or service, eg Rory Stewart & Airbnb.

Do you do this before you get it going or do you get it going first and if it gains listeners then you approach ads?

Also what platform do people use?

If you're already famous or something social media persona then I'd you have a podcast idea then your agent might go about getting it sponsored for you.

If you're a nobody and you start a podcast, if it becomes popular then companies may contact you along you to endorse their products/ include an advert.

If you're s nobody and have a very, very small listener number then it's unlikely any finish will pay you to advertise them.

So many autocorrects, sorry!

Last 'finish' is supposed to be 'company'.

A lot of "content creators" seem to make the bulk of their money from patreon and the like. I don't think YouTube pays that well these days unless you have millions of views and are unlikely to be demonitised for wrong think. I watch a few streamers on twitch who seem to be doing pretty well with quite modest viewership. The one who is most successful gets around 2000 viewers on twitch, quite successful on YouTube, putting 2 kids through private school so must be earning well.

Social blade website gives interesting statistics.

@Allmyghosts thank you.

Definitely don't want viewing/ watching just talking. I've never heard of twitch!
