Do you enjoy drop rides/the sensation of falling?

I detest them, that is any ride that involves a drop or plunge of any kind. A friend loves them. I can't go on any water rides for this reason.

Boring topic I know but I'm curious to know how others feel about them?

Hate them

DramaAlpaca · 01/07/2023 23:33

I hate them. Tried it once as a teen, never again. In fact, I pretty much hate all rides. As for going on them with the DC, it's always been made clear that's their dad's job as they are not something I do.

Love them! A lot of folk have mentioned Tower of Terror and I think that’s brilliant. Such a fun ride … I think the Florida one is the best. I also enjoy Dr Doom’s Fearfall over at Universal but that’s a shot tower rather than a drop tower (you start on the ground and shoot up). It’s over in seconds, though.

A few months ago we were in Florida and went to Busch Gardens, where we really enjoyed Sheikra - this is a dive coaster like Oblivion but a bit bigger. We also really enjoyed Serengeti Flyer, which is a swing that goes really high. Our favourite ride there was the Iron Gwazi coaster, which has an epic drop. Velocicoaster is great too - there’s a really fast launch up into the top hat, which you feel like you go over quite slowly in comparison, and then the drop itself, which is very exciting.

I just love all this stuff and I hope I don’t ever grow out of it (I’m 47!).

Nope. Hate drop rides. Can do roller coasters if forced. I scrunch up my gut so the organs can't wobbles, close my eyes, and wait for it to be done. There is absolutely no enjoyment in it for me at all.

Crinkle77 · 02/07/2023 00:15

Nohate them. I don't like the feeling that my brain is rattling round in my head and they sometimes makd me feel sick.

MyMachineAndMe · 02/07/2023 00:20

Yes, afterwards. The build up is a bit tense though but if course it's supposed to be! I have always loved white knuckle rides and rollercoasters and that up/down pole one.

I once went on the Big One at Blackpool & thought I was going to die. I took ds on the children's roller coaster when he was little & screamed the whole time I was on it, never again.

caringcarer · 02/07/2023 01:17

No, they terrify me. I feel sick just thinking of them.

Vetoncall · 02/07/2023 01:24

I love any type of theme park ride - roller coasters, drop rides, spinning, turning upside down, love all of it. I'll go on absolutely anything. DP hates them unfortunately but at least I have someone to hold my bag 😄

Toddlerteaplease · 02/07/2023 01:46

No, hate it!

I don't even like the tea cups...

Me neither, don't do spinning things.

ASGIRC · 02/07/2023 02:10

Hate sheer drop rides.

Love a rollercoaster, but, in my old age, I find myself panicking a bit on them, now.
I like spinny rides as well (though I do also get a bit panicky now, my body thinks its going to die).

For some reason, the drops in rollercoasters dont phase me that much. I LOVE Stealth and SAW and they have vertical headfirst drops! But I also cant go on Rush, as I get the stomach jumping feeling, and cant even scream, Im so terrified.

I guess I would not like to be in 0 gravity...

Yes, I like that feeling. I quite fancy sky diving to feel free falling for a bit longer.

Me, too! When trying to learn scuba diving, I was disappointed to find my sinuses aren't up to the pressure change - so that's parachuting and skydiving off the table, both things I REALLY wanted to do.

I've done parascending & paragliding, both really lovely - but the sense of flying up in the sky must be amazing. Have an extra go for me!

Even reading this thread is making my heart race 🤢

Catsmere · 02/07/2023 03:52

I haven't been on rides for probably forty years, doing it as a teenager was more than enough. Never went on roller coasters or the like, I hate heights.

LynetteScavo · 02/07/2023 06:30

No, such rides physically hurt my insides. My head likes them, but my stomach doesn't! It's a shame because I'd be having a great time otherwise. I live ging upside down on a roller coaster, but can't because a drop will be involved somewhere on the ride.

Diddykong · 02/07/2023 06:33

I have a very sensitive inner ear. I have to stand for a minute or two after being on a normal lift because I feel queasy. The only roller coasters I can tolerate are ones like Air and Manta which tip you forwards like you're flying. They do something to my stomach or ear that makes me not feel at all sick. I wish I enjoyed all of them like that!

Velocicoaster is one of the best, but most extreme 'falling' rollercoasters I've ever been on. I think because it's only a lap bar and you rise out of your seat. The first time I went on it I thought I was going to die. By the third time it was my favourite rollercoaster ever 🤣

Yes the air time due to the lap restraint looks insane. Guess I’ll have to brave out the top hat to feel it. Not sure if DS who’ll be 9 will be up for it though, we’re still in coaster training due to his height. He freaked a little with WickerMan at Alton Towers last month.

@Meowser72 - also 47 and still loving coasters. Fingers crossed I don’t get tummy fright in Universal.

IncomingTraffic · 02/07/2023 08:19

I used to quite like rollercoasters as a teenager, but I’ve never really much of a fan of the kinds of tides you get at travelling fairgrounds (mostly they seem to involve spinning you or just shaking and jolting you around).

I think it’s a sensory thing. I don’t like rides messing with my sense of balance.

However, since meeting STBXH, I find myself more negative about the idea of this stuff. He seems to think that ‘liking fast rides’ is some kind of marker of personal superiority and anyone who doesn’t like them is ‘boring’ and ‘crap’. Frankly, that attitude just makes him an arse.
