Do you enjoy drop rides/the sensation of falling?

I detest them, that is any ride that involves a drop or plunge of any kind. A friend loves them. I can't go on any water rides for this reason.

Boring topic I know but I'm curious to know how others feel about them?

I haven’t been to a theme park since I was at school. As a teen I was short and slim and only just about met the height criteria. I felt scared I would die because I wasn’t cushioned in at all - if I didn’t concentrate on holding on to the rails tightly, I felt I could fall out and injure myself so it wasn’t enjoyable. But then again, looking back I’m sure no amount of holding on would have prevented gravity from occurring

the only ride I enjoyed was when I sat next to an overweight man who took up much of the room, I genuinely felt padded and secure in the seat. That was the only time I understood the theme park hype!

Snap. Love the stomach drop feeling but hate rides because never feel safe.

Murpe · 01/07/2023 17:16

I hate it now, but used to have no problem when I was younger. I've only been to theme parks a couple of times (in teens and 20s), but when I went, would wait the extra time to be on the front of Oblivion etc. Used to purposely seek out heights too. Now, in my 40s, I get lightheaded and panicky with both. Waltzer type things at fairs is the extent of what I'll do!

Horizabel · 01/07/2023 17:22

No, I hate the sensation of speed, and the sensation of falling, so the twin sensations of falling at speed are absolutely awful for me. Plus I hate heights and get motion sick really easily. All this I loathe any kind of theme park ride (even gentle roundabout type of things -- I have been known to feel queasy on those little pusharound roundabout things in small children's playgrounds), skiing, certain types of mountain climbing, being ina boat etc.

I'm a barrel of laughs apart from this, honestly.

orangeflags · 01/07/2023 17:29

No hate them. The only ride I love and would go on time and time again is Soaring at Epcot. A simulator ride that feels like flying. It's beautiful

Justrolledmyeyesoutloud · 01/07/2023 17:32

Hate them all and thankfully my dd has never been into them so no obligation here to take her!

DrCoconut · 01/07/2023 17:34

No, I don't even like big bumps in road. I think I have something wrong with my ears because I seem so sensitive to dropping, spinning etc and I hate flying due to the pain. With flying it's like knitting needles being forced down my ears and I'm usually almost deaf for a couple of days after.

JustLurkingAway · 01/07/2023 17:38

I don't mind the drops on rollercoasters but I can't stand drop towers!

Abouttimemum · 01/07/2023 17:39

Love them! So much fun

Floralnomad · 01/07/2023 17:41

I can’t spin , go sidewards or go backwards so dropping is ok for me . I used to be able to go on anything then motion sickness struck mid spinning ride about 15 yrs ago and now it’s so bad that I can’t even face the wrong way / sideways on the tube / train .

mybrainisbusybeingawesome · 01/07/2023 17:43

Love a big rollercoaster (with the exception of Mako in Florida 🤢) but not a huge fan of those drop towers/rides. I did love them when I was much younger and remember being obsessed with the ice blast/PlayStation ride at Blackpool pleasure beach when I was 10!

transformandriseup · 01/07/2023 17:44

A big fat no from me. I love most other theme park rides though.

LunaMay · 01/07/2023 17:47

No hate them. I hate the feeling. I grew up playing the grand theft auto games and i'd get the same feeling when driving/falling off of cliffs and stuff in the game, a real visceral feeling lol

Iamnotworthy · 01/07/2023 17:48

No. Does anyone?

IronicElf · 01/07/2023 17:48

They're the only ride I hate.

But DD2 (12yo) is neurodiverse (one diagnosis, with more assessments to be done) with a lot of social anxiety and stress. I can switch her mood to happy by getting her on these rides, to the point I plan to visit theme parks after medical appointments/assessments or when school is too much.

I send her on by herself or with her sister, but I did go on one last summer and I just kept my eyes closed as I get quite severe veritgo when I'm up high.

But with DD2 anything that bounces her, or spins her in circles she also doesn't get dizzy at all boosts her mood.

LubaLuca · 01/07/2023 17:54

Yes, I like that feeling. I quite fancy sky diving to feel free falling for a bit longer.

TrashPanda · 01/07/2023 17:56

Love everything except slow spinny ones, teacups are horrific and the windy castle & balloon rides at Peppa Pig are horrible. Waltzers are fine as long as you get them spinning fast and keep them going. Drops, spins, upside down, loops are all great.

Zipps · 01/07/2023 18:00

I love them but I love all rides spinny, swingy, fast etc. I love Oblivion and Tower of terror best but TH13TEEN is also brilliantly clever even though the drop isn't very far down.

Tadashi · 01/07/2023 18:02

Love them! Hollywood Tower of terror in Disney land is my all time favourite ride.

I don't really like roller coasters though and I get a headache if I go on too many.

CeeJay81 · 01/07/2023 18:10

Like others have posted i enjoy Rollercoasters but really hate those drop towers. Was at Blackpool pleasure Beach recently and really enjoyed Icon but there's no way you'd get me on the Ice Blast🤢

Woahtherehoney · 01/07/2023 18:20

Ooooh yeah I love anything that goes high then drops. I love water slides for this reason, not a fan of windy ones but like straight ones

i can’t do anything that spins - teacups for me are out! My motion sickness can’t handle it haha.

washingmachineheart · 01/07/2023 18:23

Absolutely love those rides and that feeling, and just about any rollercoaster/thrill ride.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 01/07/2023 18:24

I can't cope with them, just can't. They terrify me. If I ever had to jump out of a plane using a parachute I think I would die of fright on the way down.

Lookingformymarbles · 01/07/2023 18:28

Absolutely not, all 'big' rides scare the hell out of me!

Dh & dcs all love them, the bigger and scarier the better-we have friends in the US so have been to various theme parks, I watch the bagsGrin

Unicorn2022 · 01/07/2023 18:29

I can't bear them. I can manage most other theme park rides (except the tea cups) and quite like a rollercoaster but I can't stand the feeling of dropping or falling. I can't do water slides or even normal slides anymore.

At Disney a couple of years ago the kids begged me to go on the Guardians of the Galaxy ride and they absolutely loved it, but I was praying for it to end and it seemed to take forever.

MadCatLady27 · 01/07/2023 18:56

I don't do rollercoasters. Log flumes are fine, although went on one on a pier once and was going up the hill and started having regrets as it was high!

Anything that involves you going upside down is a categorical NO. Never gone on one never intend to. Big fast drops are also a no

I went on the vampire and Chessington as a teenager and hated every minute, and that's seen as tame

I said on the Glastonbury thread is my idea of personal hell, however I think going to Thorpe Park or Alton Towers or one of the big theme parks and being forced to go on all the rides would be even worse - and that says something
