July Goals

I seem to be spending half my life scrolling aimlessly on my phone these days and not really achieving much. I've got a list of things I could realistically achieve over July and I'm posting them here to keep myself accountable. Some people to join in would be lovely and we could keep each other encouraged and motivated and check in each day / week or at the end of the month? Let's get started today and look back at how far we've come in 31 days!

July goals

  • Walk 5k a day
  • 2x dates with DP
  • Get half stone award at Slimming World
  • Apply for new job
  • 2x solo days out
  • Catch up on work to do list
  • Put 31 things on Vinted
  • Organise loft
  • Finish 3 books (audio and actual reading)
  • Drink 1 litre water every day
  • Start an evening routine
  • Work out how much money I spend on food so I can have a budget to work with next month
  • Do 31 jobs from my massive to do list
  • Do Parkrun twice
  • Try 3 new recipes
  • Get organised for August birthdays
  • Go swimming at my local pool
  • Plan things to do on our trip to York in August
  • Go to the gym four times
  • Plan family day out in August
A lot but also achievable if I start now.

I think the first item on your list should be to cut that list in half or even reduce it further.
If you already struggle with procrastination you are setting yourself up to fail with such a long list.

That seems like a lot (to me) OP!

My only goals for July are to try and enjoy it by spending as much time outside as I can while the weather's nice, read in the garden as much as the weather allows, get my landing painted (paint has been sat there ready to go for months) and keep on top of the garden which feels like a part-time job half the time. When we moved in I over ambitiously decided I'd put two large curved borders on the lawned area, several climbers up the back of the house and shed and a number of pots and no seem to spend my life trying to either keep them alive or trying to control them. I'm not a natural gardener but I do love sitting out there when it looks nice and it's in full bloom, there's nothing like it for me!

Start booking things into a diary / calendar so it’s less nebulous. eg Sat 8th July - 9:30 Parkrun / Sun 16th July - day out to …

Otherwise you’ll get to the end of the month and will be trying to pack things in. It will create stress not reduce it.

That is a huge list! My goals for July are:
Do Duolingo every day
Read a book a week
Go out for ice cream at least once a week

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 01/07/2023 17:28

My goals for July
Hit 20k steps every day (I missed 4 days in June)
Stick to my diet
Stop spending money on stuff I don't need
Declutter one room in my house, probably the living room

I might add duolingo in there too, I used it during lockdown and have ignored it ever since

SummerHouse · 01/07/2023 17:39

I am with you. Joining you on a litre a day, gym once a week, healthy eating. I think your list is great.

We are going to Whitby so I will also join you in planning things to do.

I love York!

Guillebeaux · 01/07/2023 17:45

Great idea for a thread!

My goals for July are to add 500 words a day to a novel, review three books each week on my blog and do one Domestika course.

Valhalla17 · 02/07/2023 11:48

Love this! Although, I feel your list is super long OP😅I'm not sure I can keep up with you!

My goals:
Walk 10k steps a day
Swim twice a week
Declutter one room in my flat each week (been putting it off for absolutely ages!)
Add to my novel - write for 30mins every morning
Organise some days out/activities and do them with ds

Looking forward to seeing how people get on

Hi all, I found this chat while searching for Setting Goals. I think a lot of the ones you have set are great! Now wondering how you’re all getting on?!

Valhalla17 · 16/07/2023 11:19

Hi @Chabbylis 👋🏼

All going well so far! I've put my goals in a task list/habit tracker app and am checking in daily to make sure I keep things going. Its felt really good actually to focus on these things and I've felt very productive so far! I've missed a swim or two due to a busy week last week, but have already booked my sessions for next week to commit.

How are you getting on with your goal setting?

Chabbylis · 17/07/2023 20:37

Well done @Valhalla17 ! Good idea to write goals down to keep focused. I’m keeping up with most of mine…just the evenings seem to disappear when I’m feeling especially tired!

BLT24 · 17/07/2023 20:44

Great idea for a thread. But your list is huge 😯 I’d be happy if I managed a few of those!

My goals are:

  • Morning routine - no phone first thing, coffee, get dressed, meditations
  • Bedtime routine - no phone in bed, 9.30pm read/podcast/sleep music for 1 hour then sleep
  • Stick to my diet plan (1400 kcals a day), 2l water and take supplements every day
  • Daily Walk

I’m going from a period of very poor mental health which has resulted in me spending the last few months six days a week in bed and 15 hours a day scrolling on my phone and watching tv. Last month I stuck to my diet plan, water and supplements so I want to carry that on.
