Is anyone else getting stupid spam emails with subjects about OralB but it's clearly just phishing?

I'm receiving multiple a day going into my normal inbox rather than junk and it's really irritating me now. I'm marking them as junk or spam without opening them now cause I figured I think the sender can tell if an email is opened? But it's all different spammy type email addresses, never the same one.
Don't know what's happened to kick off the sudden I flux of them but I haven't signed up to anything new. Very irritating!

Yes, Outlook's spam filter has been broke for months now. Everyone on twitter and ij the Microsoft forums have complained and they've released nothing about it, so theg obviously don't care. I used to report them to Microsoft but now I don't bother I just delete them or ignore them. I do get some funny ones like "The secret to maintaining an erection? Drink bull piss!!"

Not just me then!!!??

I was getting about 20-30 OralB ones straight into my inbox, but strangely from today they're going straight into Spam. Maybe Microsoft have sorted it out!

Touchwood, I've not had one since mid afternoon

It does make you wonder how Microsoft is so utterly useless at detecting spam

BertieBotts · 01/07/2023 23:21

I'm getting the oral B ones. Not my MN email but they are on the email I used to sign up here initially, I think. I can't remember.

It's Hotmail too - I think Hotmail is the problem. I get tons and tons and tons of spam on that email and none on my Gmail.

Well except one that I got on my birthday from "Indian scammer" Confused saying happy birthday and Microsoft had identified a security breach. What?! What kind of scammer calls themselves "indian scammer"??

I wonder if it was just someone I know playing a joke 😂

BertieBotts · 01/07/2023 23:22

I also keep getting offered horny single women on my Hotmail. This is a surprise because I'm married, to a man.

PurpleFar · 01/07/2023 23:28

Yes. It's because of Outlook. They broke their spam filter months ago and can't be bothered to fix it. I have the same problem and it's driving me crazy.

Mine are about 'hot Ukrainian women'!

Also getting the oral B ones, but none of the others mentioned here.

All to Hotmail and not my Gmail account.

BlippiIsAnnoying · 02/07/2023 01:05

Same here, also tons from travelwop and frikiking frikigadgets

Irunoncoffeemascaraandhighheels · 02/07/2023 01:40

Same.

I have questions.

Can I delete my Microsoft account and open a new one but not give that email address to anyone (I can use Gmail for online purchases)?

Then if I do, that does it mean I don't get spam to the new Microsoft email address because nobody knows it exists? I'm a numpty and don't know if this is how it works.

Also I'm thinking I'd need a new email because I have a Microsoft laptop computer (well the machine it's Hewlett Packard but you know what I mean) so I need to sign in when it starts up. Can I do that with the new email address or does it have to be the old one? Like, if I delete my old Microsoft account that attracts spam, does it mean I lose access to my laptop forever?

Saverage · 02/07/2023 06:55

I've had the same problem with hotmail the last couple of weeks. I've had some success by blocking the domain they came from and not just the individual email address. You can do that in web version but i don't think you can in the app.

aModernClassic · 02/07/2023 07:00

Yep! Mostly OralB. Been getting the Curry's ones too.

fudgepie12 · 02/07/2023 08:39

@Irunoncoffeemascaraandhighheels no that still wouldn't guarantee no spam, if you chose a really unusual email address with random characters you'd probably increase the chance of success, but what a lot of these scams do is guess email addresses (on an automated mass scale)

Currys have been warning about this for months. Touch wood, nothing since yesterday, so perhaps Microsoft have woken up at last.

Richvanilla · 02/07/2023 09:26

Oh my god yes! At least 15 a day of either OralB or Hot Ukrainian Women. Driving me mad!

easterkeg · 02/07/2023 10:04

Oral B and air fryers for me. Trying to block them all but more come through.

Irunoncoffeemascaraandhighheels · 02/07/2023 15:03

Thanks @fudgepie12 . Do you know if I'd still be able to access my laptop if I had a different email address? I'd like to try anyway, but the laptop seems to be totally linked to my Microsoft account. The second it's switched on it wants my Microsoft email password.

Would this be around the same time that we got the messages about our Hotmail storage being full and would we like to pay an extremely reasonable fee for extra storage to keep our accounts open?

MaybeWednesday · 03/07/2023 09:08

Drat! Back in the Inbox today about 4 of them!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 03/07/2023 10:42

They are back today for me too!! So annoying

Freetodowhatiwant · 03/07/2023 11:21

Yes! I have been ignoring them and not opening them but I am getting a lot.

ZittiEBuoni · 03/07/2023 11:24

Hate to say it but I've just had one in the spam folder of my gmail account.

Outlook has been getting them persistently for about a month now.

avocadotofu · 03/07/2023 13:47

Yes me too.

VisionsOfSplendour · 04/07/2023 14:54

Mine have branched out into generic Dental Care today, I've had 6 so far!

roseopose · 04/07/2023 14:58

Yep had about 8 for oral b this morning already and all the other ones listed in this thread too, been going on for weeks. Pissed off with Microsoft tbh, it's a Hotmail email address and they all go to my focused inbox and I get a notification. Gmail accounts I have never received a single spam message.
