Please help! Around £20. No cash/vouchers as she won't be allowed to choose what to spend them on. Not sure of clothes size, so can't do clothes. What do your 16 year old like?

Bath bomb set from Lush?

verysmellyjelly · 30/06/2023 20:05

String lights

Make up always goes down well with DD, but you'd have to know the foundation number she uses. Or you could buy an eyeshadow pallette.

Book voucher if she's into reading cos then they have to let her spend it on books.

It’s so hard to know without knowing what kind of character she is - is she an urban outfitters type? A hoody and Nike Air force girl? Make up or not? Girly?

yikesanotherbooboo · 30/06/2023 20:13

Good eyeliner

RequiresUpdating · 30/06/2023 20:14

I doubt she's allowed to wear make up. Or hoodies.
@Dacadactyl she'd only be allowed to spend it on dictionaries, classics and the like, wouldn't be allowed to choose which books to buy. Tried that before.

Poor girl 😥

I'd just give her an empty card and slip her 20 quid on the way out.

purpleglitterglue · 30/06/2023 20:17

Simple sterling silver necklace or earrings.
Bath set and nice chocs
Silk scarf
Perfume
Hand cream, body lotion, hair accessories, dry shampoo, phone case, sweets, candle

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 30/06/2023 20:17

Jewellery?

Or could you offer to take her to the cinema or similar?

Does she like crafts? Jewellery making kit?

My dd was 16 recently. She likes bath stuff but not bath bombs, they irritate her skin. Do you know anything re bands she might like, or hobbies ?
If you find out a bit more you could get her a band t shirt, or a CD. Makeup wise my dd doesn’t wear much but would like lipstick or lipgloss, a mascara, eg Benefit . My dd is outdoorsy and so likes things related to that, finding out a hobby would be good. Also sweets, Candy Kittens are popular with dd and friends.

SirVixofVixHall · 30/06/2023 20:20

i Missed the no makeup bit, sorry. Maybe something for her bedroom ? A picture frame, a cushion, a beautiful notebook .

TinyBarista · 30/06/2023 20:23

I find nice haircare goes down well with that age group

RequiresUpdating · 30/06/2023 20:23

No, I can't take her anywhere.
As far as I know, she's not allowed anywhere on her own. So she wouldn't be able to spend any money without someone knowing. I don't want her being questioned on where she got it!
I don't know about music, but I suspect she's not allowed to listen to pop music or have interest in bands. Classical only.
She does one hobby that she has to do because her parents lead the group. I honestly don't know if she actually likes it!

My standard over the past few years are jewellery and craft kits, so yes, can always fall back on these.

A little hamper of sweets, chocs and smelly stuff! Believe me, looks great, covers their likes and shows effort but having to spend a fortune! X

crazeekat · 30/06/2023 20:43

god i'm hooked now, poor girl. i agree, put a tenner in a card so so long can say u gave her nothing then when she's on her own give her another £20. u will be the cool af aunt and she will get a bit of freedom and rebellion in her, she can get smart as to how when where she is gonna spend it. most importantly spend it on what she wants not what she is ordered to get.

Jonniecomelately · 30/06/2023 20:52

Scrunchies, a hair wrap, cloth book bag, nice bubble bath, jewellery, a nice pen and notebook

Bramshott · 30/06/2023 20:57

I got DD a set of "crystals for your 16th birthday" from either Etsy or Not on the High St which were very popular.

Screamingabdabz · 30/06/2023 21:29

I would stage an intervention with social services - she sounds like a kidnap victim not a carefree 16 year old. Poor kid. She must feel so lonely and isolated.

TwoPointFourCatsAndDogs · 30/06/2023 21:39

A nice notebook with a tenner hidden inside. Poor kid.

caringcarer · 30/06/2023 22:50

Earrings
Painting equipment if she likes to paint.
Charchol and good quality paper if she likes to draw.
Good quality writing paper and a nice pen and postage stamps. (She could send you a help letter if she needed to be rescued)
Chocolates and a big balloon with 16 on.
