I’m planning a picnic for a group of adults (and babies) and want to make it really nice.

So far I’ve got plans for a great salad, and that’s pretty much it!

I like to keep it simple:

Baguette
Butter
Ripe brie or camembert
Charcuterie

Strawberries and cream or creme fraiche

PTSDBarbiegirl · 30/06/2023 10:25

Curried eggs.

deviled eggs are nice ,hard boiled eggs

boil 10 eggs

peel cool

slice in half length ways

remove yolk

blend yolk with 3 tablespoon mayonnaise, bit of dijon mustard, teaspoon sugar, teaspoon white wine vinegar ,paprika

use piping bag to put egg yolk back in egg whites

Fresh crusty bread or baguette for sandwiches (I like ham from the butcher with salad or cheese ploughman’s).

Crudites with dips/hummus.

Sausages or sausage rolls.

Big bag of crisps.

Some kind of fruit - watermelon or strawberries are nice in summer.

Something sweet - maybe cake or flapjacks

Newusernameaug · 30/06/2023 10:30

Home made sausage roll - veggie and meat versions

fruit salad

French bread

I like to marinate chicken drumsticks in herbs and lemon and then cook and cool and eat cold.

Plus nice bread, decent ham and butter

Crudites that MUST include fresh radishes

Perhaps a pasta salad- I make one that has sundried tomatoes; black olives, feta cheese and basil in it. I do mix a bit of mayo as well.

Strawberries

Rose lemonade and a flask of coffee or tea if not drinking

A decent chocolate cake

Asking this may have been a mistake. So many excellent ideas I’m going to end up massively over catering!

I don't eat much meat and prefer to avoid for picnics, so

Egg mayonnaise sandwiches
Higgidy cheese and onion rolls (if not making your own)
Homemade potato salad (vinaigrette not mayo)
Kalamata olives
Stuffed vine leaves
Tomato+mozzarella salad
Mini red peppers stuffed with cream cheese
Fancy crisps + pecorino cheese dip
Houmous + carrot sticks
Grapes
Strawberries
Something chocolate, like mini brownie bites
Sparkling wine
Sparkling elderflower

Yes this - nice meat selection (salamis, Parma ham etc). Mozzarella balls, olives, baguette, hummus and wine!

mauveiscurious · 01/07/2023 22:13

Great bread is the key

Just re-read your post, realising its mums and babies finger food may be easier than juggling babies, plates, forks and drinks!

Sausage plait - mix some sausage meat with grated carrot and apple and a bit of tomato pesto. Roll out a sheet of pastry, spoon the sausage mix down the middle. Cut thin strips on either side and plait them over. Brush with beaten egg and bake on 180 for about 30 mins. CHill before the picnic.
